ZTE to Bring Android Phone to US Next Year
Really, at this point it would be more shocking to learn of companies that AREN’T planning to release an Android device in the near future. But without fail we go forward with further news that a relatively unknown player to most Americans is trying to come to the US in 2010.
The company, ZTE Corp., is a Chinese-based company that mainly deals with manufacturing base stations for wireless carriers but dabbles with devices on the side. And now it appears that ZTE is in talks with each one of the 4 major US carriers to bring its own Android handset to market sometime next year.
So where is ZTE’s handset division currently seeing success? You can find phones made by ZTE at UK’s Vodafone, Spain’s Telefonica, and China Mobile.

Dale Ying, ZTE’s managing director of handset business marketing, revealed in an interview that the company’s smartphone division is really starting to beef up and will continue to do so over the next few years. “We see big potential in the smartphone market. We are targeting to ship more smartphones in the coming few years which will help to improve our gross margin,” he said.
So now the question becomes if any of the big carriers will bite at the chance to sell ZTE Android handsets. I am curious to know if there is a reason the US doesn’t sell any ZTE phones.
