Motorola Krave ZN4 available from Verizon Wireless

Motorola took design cues from its own Ming and cooked up a clear flip, full touchscreen phone. The Krave ZN4 isn’t that exciting except for its clear flip design. With Krave, you get the usual set of features like a 2.8-inch screen, up to 8GB memory, Bluetooth with A2DP, GPS and a 2 megapixel camera. There’s also accelerometer for rotating the screen in landscape or portrait mode and built-in Verizon goodies.

Verizon is selling this phone for $150 after a $50 mail-in rebate and a 2 year commitment.

Microsoft Instant On OS suggested in market survey

It’s all about the research from Microsoft today.  As well as their Oahu multitouch concept, the software giant is also exploring the possibility of an “Instant On” operating-system, which would give access to the browser, IM client, DVD and media player within eight seconds.

However users would not have access to the full range of Windows options and applications, for instance files and data.  Part of the survey asks would-be users to judge how useful they would consider solely having use of web browsing media playback and instant messaging.

The concept is, of course, similar to that seen on many notebooks and motherboards, but they all use a custom Linux build created primarily for speed with a limited feature set.  Given Microsoft’s less than positive attitude to Linux, it will be interesting to see by what method their own Instant On service would be delivered.

iPhone 3G hacked to run Windows Mobile? Video Demo

A Norwegian developer has apparently hacked the iPhone 3G to run Windows Mobile.  In a video interview at the MyPhone2008 conference, Erik Kristiansen demonstrated his hacked Apple smartphone which clearly shows WM6.1 Pro loading, and then him navigating between different applications including an Excel Mobile spreadsheet and the Today homescreen.

Kristiansen suggests that the implementation is currently in beta stage, but will see a release in January 2009.  There are no details of exactly how he has modified the handset and/or the software, but the iPhone 3G is presumably Jailbroken as a starting point.

Presumably Apple fans are currently screaming “why, oh lord, why?” and scratching their heads trying to figure out why you’d want to sully an iPhone 3G with Microsoft’s platform.  Without more details, however, there’s still the possibility that this could be a fake: a video playing a WM6.1 demo, for instance, with Kristiansen pretending to tap along with it.
