Samsung takes Sony Ericsson’s place as second biggest player in Indian handset market

It could be because of the lack of a real flagship handset, or the fact that most of its much-awaited phones have been delayed for God knows how long, but Sony Ericsson’s market share all around the world is slipping fast, and recently it was overtaken by Samsung in the Indian mobile phone market.

From 8.1 percent, Sony Ericsson’s market share in India’s mobile phone market has dropped to 5.8 percent, while Samsung experiences a slight growth from 7 percent to 7.4 percent market share.

The story here isn’t that Samsung is making great strides to the top of the handset market, but that Sony Ericsson is going down fast. With nearly 3 percent decrease in a huge market like India , you can only imagine how much impact this has on Sony Ericsson as a company.

It seems winning the Greenpeace Greenest Electronics Company Award doesn’t do you much good as a company, after all.
