All you mobile freaks, there is some good news for you. Omnia, yet another smartphone (a.k.a iPhone wannabe) by Samsung has been launched. A doubt which lingered around everyone’s mind was if Omnia could match Apple’s iPhone - The true consumer centric device. However, Omnia seems to have a more business rather than consumer focus. Omnia boasts of a 3.2 inch screen, 7.2 mbps HSDPA, Wi-fi connectivity, 5 megapixel camera, accelerometer and a memory option of 8/16 GB. The design is quite simple, though not as simple as the iPhone. Omnia runs on Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 6.1 OS and would please the hardcore Windows fan. It has an FM radio, an opera browser, and quad-band GSM/EDGE. Fortunately, Samsung seems to have realized that IE is not that great and has included Opera browser. The phone performs well and many feel the touchscreen is more responsive than the previous consumer mobile phones Samsung has launched. Omnia will reach shelves in Asia by June 2008 onwards, Europe will have to wait till July.
