Samsung considering buying memory card maker SanDisk

With the seemingly steady rise in yearly licensing fees it has to pay to digital memory chip maker SanDisk, Samsung is now considering buying the company and make it one of their own.

Acquiring SanDisk should prove helpful to Samsung’s plans for the future, especially now that their newest handset offerings are starting to have substantial flash memory provided out of the box.

Currently, Samsung pays SanDisk about $353.8 million a year in licensing fees, but this amount should soon be reduced if Samsung goes through with the acquisition.

Also, with SanDisk’s experience in the music player business with its Sansa line of MP3 players, Samsung could further enhance and develop their own music player offerings.
