Sony Ericsson appoints Wolfstar to provide global social media counsel
Sony Ericsson, one of the world’s largest mobile phone manufacturers, has appointed public relations and social media specialist Wolfstar to advise it on its global social media communications strategy.
The global campaign will initially include online monitoring and evaluation of Sony Ericsson’s online brand reputation, as well as establishing relationships with online customers and influencers. Wolfstar will also be counselling Sony Ericsson on developing social media outreach programmes to support the brand and products.
The account will be lead by Wolfstar managing director Stuart Bruce, who said: “This is a global programme that is looking to develop a social media communications strategy that can be implemented across all of Sony Ericsson’s international market units to help them develop consumer thought leadership online.”
Wolfstar reports to Global Communications and Public Relations at Sony Ericsson. Merran Wrigley, VP, Head of External Communications, Global Communications and PR said: “Wolfstar not only demonstrated a great understanding of social media, but this was under pinned by a good grounding in traditional corporate communications and a passion for our brand.”

Motorola places 3.5G handset orders with FIH for 2009
Motorola has speeded up the outsourcing of 3.5G handsets by teaming up with Foxconn International Holdings (FIH)/Chi Mei Communication Systems (CMCS) for the ODM production of 3.5G handsets for 2009, according to sources in the Taiwan handset industry.
FIH/CMCS will utilize chipsets from Qualcomm in the production of 3.5G handsets for Motorola, the sources indicated.
FIH/CMCS'3.5G handset orders from Motorola came after the US branded handset vendor already placed ODM 3.5G handset orders with Taiwan-based Qisda and Compal Communications, said the sources, noting that Qisda will start shipping 3.5G handsets to Motorola in September and Compal will follow suit in the fourth quarter.
In other news, FIH's share price dropped 24% to close at HK$5.84 (US$0.75) on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKSE) on August 18 after the company, on August 15, warned investors that its earnings for the first half of this year will decline 'significantly' from a year earlier.
The Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) quoted JP Morgan as indicating that FIH is expected to see its net profits decline 8% to US$660 million in 2008 from last year's US$721 million.
