For the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 to have a November 28th release date in the U,S., a quick trip to the FCC is necessary. So it’s not at all surprising to find some documents, as well as photos, pertaining to the said Windows Mobile-powered handset from the FCC.
The U.S. Xperia X1 will fortunately come with quad-band GSM and tri-band UMTS support to take advantage of all its connectivity features. Additionally, it should also work fine with AT&T’s HSDPA network.

Expect the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 to be made available on November 28th through regular retail outlets. And don’t forget, it’s going to be $799.99.

Samsung and AT&T have made it official. The i907 Epix looks nice and features Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, 3.6Mbps HSDPA, WiFi, Bluetooth, 2-megapixel cam, AGPS with AT&T Navigator, Video Share support, 320 x 320 2.5-inch touchscreen display, and an “optical mouse” for some reason. You can get it now for $99.99 on a two-year contract. One thing that you definitely notice about this one is the extra screen real estate that could have been…If not for the overly large area that displays the AT&T logo. Otherwise, it looks good.

One of Sprint’s popular Windows Mobile smartphones, the Samsung ACE (SPH-i325), can now be upgraded to the latest 6.1 version of Microsoft’s OS.
Of course, we’re talking about Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard and not the Professional edition, since the ACE is a non-touchscreen device and does not support the latter.
Together with the new WM, Sprint and Samsung are also offering several other enhancements. The most important one is related to GPS: Samsung ACE is now GPS capable and supports Sprint Navigator.

Other improvements include Office Mobile 6.1 and support for unsigned applications, meaning that users are now allowed to install third-party apps, with or without certification.
You can get the WM 6.1 update for your ACE by visiting Samsung Mobile’s website.
Released by Sprint at the beginning of 2008, Samsung ACE is available from the US carrier for $99.99, after a $100 mail-in rebate and the signing of a 2-yr contract. Well, now you have GPS capabilities too for that money.

While waiting for the launch of the Samsung i770, here are spy images of the upcoming smartphone from Howard Forums to give some visual idea of the real thing. The spy images juxtaposing i770 with its predecessor Samsung i760, show the new Samsung phone longer and slimmer than i770, having replaced the slider keypad of i760 with a full QWERTY keypad at the front. A big silver ring on the front surrounds an optical touchpad. A toggle button will allow users to switch from the virtual mouse mode to the regular keypad mode. The Windows Mobile 6.1-powered smartphone will support 1xEvDO and Rev-A/GRPS Connectivity, WiFi, Bluetooth v2.0, 2MP camera and VZ Navigator.

Corporate executives and those who rely on their phone to be a computer as well.
Should they buy it? Yes

HTC Touch Cruise, which in November will make one year since its official unveiling, can now be upgraded to Windows Mobile 6.1.
HTC has issued an updated ROM on its corporate website, so all owners of the handset can leave behind the WM 6.0 and bring on the 6.1 version.
“All owners” literally means all of them, as HTC is offering the upgrade regardless of the carrier you bought the Touch Cruise from. Which is cool.
The features brought by the ROM upgrade, together with the obvious new WM 6.1 flavor, include:
-
Improved Bluetooth functionality. Apparently there were some problems with headsets like Samsung WEP 150, Jabra JX10 and Jabra BT500. They’re fixed now.
-
The FM Radio now uses the correct output mode (headset / speaker)
-
GPS mode enhancements
-
Enhanced title bar display
-
Default on-screen keyboard improvements
-
TomTom is now correctly shown in the home screen
-
The TouchFLO setting is now always appearing in the handset’s Settings menu
-
Camera viewfinder now works perfectly
You can get the Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade for your Cruise from here.
HTC Touch Cruise might not have a TouchFlo 3D UI, like the latest handsets presented by HTC, but even with its non-3D TouchFlo interface, it’s still a good device. Wi-Fi, GPS and a 3.2 autofocus camera are not features to overlook. And with Windows Mobile 6.1 on board, the Cruise can actually pas as a 2008 handset.

Gagan:

Getting a Windows Mobile 6.1 update is the thing to do these days, it seems. After AT&T Tilt getting one, soon followed by Verizon XV6800, the latest phone to get a Windows Mobile 6.1 update is Blackjack II by Samsung. This update installs stuff such as threaded SMS, a new home screen, better power management among others on Blackjack II. The update is almost ready, well the instructions to install it are anyway. Too much traffic led to a server crash and Samsung is still trying to sort things out. Just keep refreshing the following links to keep abreast of any positive improvement as and when it takes place.
• XP download
• Vista download
