Gamers Cockpit GT3 gives us gamers woody

gt3.jpgForget about those cheap steering wheel video game accessories if you have some serious cash to spend - the folks over at The Gamers Cockpit have your virtual racing desires covered if you have the money put down. Meet the GT3, priced at around $3,250.

The Gamers Cockpit GT3 will work with select racing games on your PlayStation 2 or Xbox 360. It consists of an all steel chassis, advanced racing seat, steering wheel, pedals, a Logitech surround sound system, your choice of video game console, your choice of video racing game and a 19-inch Samsung LCD television.

What we particularly like about the chassis is that you can customize it in a bunch of different colors. The same can also be done for your racing seat. About the only thing missing now is a beer company sponsorship and a bimbo in a bikini sprawled across the simulator.

Toshiba’s Portege G910 / G920 go FCC: followup to the G900 superphone

Filed under:

Probably because it’s not that big of a player in the domestic cellphone space, Toshiba may not be familiar with all the ins and outs of FCC confidentiality agreements, as evidenced by its testing subcontractor leaving tons of juicy photos of the unannounced Portege G910 / G920 smartphones in those devices’ recently-declassified applications. Tosh’s blunder clues us in to a whole world of info about this followup to the WVGA, Windows Mobile 6 Portege G900, such as the fact that it’s eschewing its predecessor’s sliding form factor for the clamshell-design of the Nokia E90 (perhaps an answer to the tilting screen of HTC’s TyTN II?). While full specs aren’t yet available, we’ve pieced together that these devices (differentiated by the fact that one of them will have a crippled GPS receiver) are tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 — sorry, fellow Americans, no US broadband here — with WiFi, Bluetooth, and dual cameras, and powered by a Qualcomm processor of unknown speed. Hit up the gallery below for a few more inelegant FCC glamour shots, including some dissection photos that may help our clever readers glean even more information…

Windows Mobile: more of what’s going on in the next two versions

Filed under:

Publicly disclosable details about the future of Windows Mobile are still sparse, but we can let the door open a bit wider on what was shown at this year’s Mobius with regard to the next two versions of Windows Mobile. We all know that 6.1 is around the corner, but it’s the next two versions beyond that which are really interesting. Post-6.1, WinMo will indeed have its app suite revamped, including a desktop-grade port of IE6 to Windows Mobile, which Microsoft is directly targeting mobile Safari with. Likewise, the rest of the consumer-centric apps (photos, media, etc.) as well as the messaging suite will be upgraded to be a bit friendlier. This whole experience won’t be too foreign to long-time users, but is the next step in the right direction.

But it’s really the Windows Mobile that’s two versions out that’s the game-changer. Significantly redeveloped, this WinMo will focus on an upgraded user experience with massive changes made to ease of use, as well as new features like global search and data correlation, meaning the device would, for example, know who you’re talking to and give you instant access to email from only that person, or maybe a map with that pinpoints their address. Of course, we also know that this version of WM will be a lot more touch-friendly than the stylus-centric experience we’re all used to today. Fingers crossed they’ll execute on this stuff — Microsoft’s a big company with lots of wonderful ideas that seem to fall out of the truck on the way to the store.

Man, that goofy Moto Q9 over Boy Genius Report is just the gift that keeps on giving — now we’ve got a five and a half minute video walkthrough of WinMo 6.1, showing off all the new features, including long-awaited threaded text messaging and new “Vista” theme, which looks pretty slick in action. No sense in talking about it when the whole vid is waiting after the break, get to it!

HTC Neon hits the FCC, next stop NTT DoCoMo?

So we’re not too sure what’s going on with this here “NEON100″ from HTC that just found its way through the FCC’s bureaucratic labyrinth. Is it yet another Touch variant? Yeah, it clearly is — just take a good hard look at that label sample. It’s also recently passed through Japan’s certification process, and we’re seeing some talk across the ‘nets that it could be destined for NTT DoCoMo, but we don’t think it’s the HT1100 since we’re not seeing any hint of a slide here. Even more confusing, the test reports are referencing WCDMA Band V — North America’s version of WCDMA on the 850MHz band, versus Japan’s Band VI. Ah, screw it, the point is that we’re pretty sure this isn’t destined for the States unless it’s tucked neatly away in the briefcase of a Japanese traveler. Shame, too, since we sure could use a Touch with HSDPA ’round here.

BlackJack revisited: Samsung readying “Ace” smartphone for Sprint?

From a distance, this thing looks just a little too much like the BlackJack (the old one, not the new) for comfort — but when you zoom in a bit, it looks like Samsung’s spinning a few cute touches into its SPH-i325 “Ace” for Sprint. Mobiledia has this one pegged for the first quarter of next year, offering a Windows Mobile Standard alternative to the BlackBerrys of the world with a slim shell, QWERTY keyboard, and landscape QVGA display; it’s probably not going to make any BlackJack II owners envious, but at least this gives Sprint customers a chance to keep up with the Joneses. Even better, Boy Genius Report claims that we might see a little GSM radio stuffed in there for the globetrotters in the crowd. Anyone have an old Samsung Ace for Mobile ESPN, by the way?

Windows Mobile 6.1 gets pictured, detailed

So this weird Motorola Q9 that Boy Genius Report came across is turning into quite a gold mine. First it revealed AT&T’s apparent intention to let its guard down just a tad and start bringing more devices into the WiFi fold — despite the obvious risk to data revenue — and now it turns out that she’s dressed to the nines with none other than Windows Mobile 6.1. A fleeting glance at most of the screens doesn’t indicate any obvious changes from 6 (it is a .1 release, after all), but the devil’s in the details: goodies like threaded SMS (Yahtzee!) and cut-and-freaking-paste on Standard (double Yahtzee!) alone should make it a worthwhile upgrade. ‘Course, it’s up to the carriers and manufacturers as usual to ultimately decide whether to push updates to existing devices, but it would be pure, unadulterated torture if the lion’s share of devices didn’t see official releases. Seriously, we’d cry.
