You read it right fellas. Guys from the stateside enjoy good internet speeds but it’s nothing when you compare it with the highest developed South Asian country, Japan. The result came after the participation of more than 230,000 residents in a survey carried out by Communications Workers of America for their Speed Matters campaign.
The average median download speed from 2007 to 2008 found was just a mere gain of 0.4mbps to 2.3mbps in the current year. Now if you think it’s really fast then think again because Japan’s average download speed is 63mbps.
If you happen to be in Las Vegas this weekend, you might want to check out the 2008 USA Rock Paper Scissors League Championship on June 20 in Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The Champion with the best hand skills will win a $50,000 prize and a ticket to compete in Beijing,China during the Summer Olympics, where they will represent the U.S. in the inaugural International Rock Paper Scissors Federation Championship.
I’ve never been entirely clear on the official rules. It always gets tricky with rock against paper. Paper can wrap around a rock and strangle it, but on the other hand, rock can beat paper to a pulp. Check out the video below. It’s strangely mesmerizing.
An official announcement from AT&T tells us that they will be the first carrier to exclusively offer the much-hyped and recently released BlackBerry Bold 9000 this summer. Though the exact month of release has not been confirmed, it is said that only AT&T will be able to release the BlackBerry Bold in the US, if only for now.
That should be interesting, taking into consideration that a lot of people are being lured into a contract with AT&T because of the Apple iPhone. Will the BlackBerry Bold be able to attract as many new customers for AT&T?
This will prove to be an even tougher choice for customers who already have their eyes set on the iPhone, but know for a fact that a BlackBerry device could also do them better. The BlackBerry Bold is RIM’s new flagship smartphone, measuring 4.48 x 2.59 x 0.55 inches and weighing only 133 grams.
It also tops the iPhone with its physical QWERTY keyboard and 3G network support, a feature that is yet to come on Apple’s wondrous handset.
So while we can’t say for sure when you can expect the BlackBerry Bold to appear on AT&T stores, rest assured it’s going to be very soon.
CinemaNow.com is capping off a summer of partnerships by inking a deal with streaming media provider Quartics to allow CinemaNow members to watch Internet selections on their TVs.
Quartics’ PC2TV solution provides wireless streaming of high-definition 1080 x 720p content from a PC to a TV without buffering. CinemaNow currently boasts an online library of 10,000 movies, TV shows and music videos. You can buy content to own, rent and watch within a 24-hour period or burn to DVD. For those who’d rather watch their selections on TV than a laptop, enter Quartics.
This is not the first TV solution for CinemaNow.com, however. HP’s upcoming MediaSmart TVs will also have access to CinemaNow’s movie database.
In July, CinemaNow signed an agreement with Sony BMG, EMI and Sanctuary Records that will allow for the sale and rental of content from those labels on CinemaNow and its partner site, WatchMusicHere.com.
