We are hearing some grumblings down the pipeline about a confirmed Sony Ericsson announcement tomorrow. It looks to be geared toward the Walkman series, as well as a new accessory called the MBS-900 (bluetooth, perhaps?).
While the announcement is confirmed, the news in the rumor mill are that the W705 “Rika” will be announced. Last year on November 6, SE announced a trio of new phones, so I have the feeling that this is just a good day for Sony. Some important person’s birthday, maybe. But the important thing is, we have another new phone to look forward to.
As always, we’re going to keep you updated on what news comes out of headquarters. Meanwhile, enjoy some pics of the W705 courtesy of these guys!

Also rumored is a threaded messaging style, YouTube app built in and a 3.5 mm jack, the first in the Walkman series to be offered. Finally!

And out of the darkness, in the light of Howard Forums, appears two brand new spy pics of the forthcoming Samsung i770 smartphone. No word on if these are official but the pictures do look genuine.
The i770 is the natural successor of the Samsung i760, which is compared to the i770 in both pictures. We find that the i770 is longer, yet thinner. Is it better to be thinner and longer versus thicker and shorter? Personally when I am faced with a decision between two phones I typically am more interested in the thinner phone — I am not a fan of bulk.

News of the i770 “Saga” came out in the early summer with word that we could expect release of this phone on Verizon in Q3 of this year. Sadly (or happily, depending on how one looks at it) we have recently seen Q3 come to an end. So when can we expect this phone to make an appearance?

Not so sure at this point. The release date hybrid CDMA/GSM smartphone with WinMo 6.1 is still lying in a vault deep in the midst of Verizon’s offices, but we are continually scoping all of the latest breaking news in an effort to find out for you.
Is it worth the wait? Sound off — let us know what you think about this anticipated smartphone.

Atom has been making its way into the majority of netbook systems and Intel’s success with Atom has triggered AMD to work on its own chip to compete with Atom. AMD has not publicly discussed the upcoming chip much but has shown some indication that the CPU is in the works for quite sometime now.
Leaked information shows that AMD’s UVC (Ultra Value Client) chip will be announced as early as November and will be sold directly to OEM.
The new chips will be paired with 740G platform that AMD recently announced. The 740G features Radeon 2100 GPU with full support for HD decoding and uses SB700 southbridge. The report did not reveal power consumption of the chip and platform.

We at UV have to admit that Boy Genius is a great source for rumors and upcoming phones. Today they got ahold of Sprint’s current roadmap for ‘08-’09. Both Sprint and Nextel have some good offerings in store for the future. Let’s check some of them out.
Blackberry 8350i
This is essentially the Curve for Nextel. The new offering from RIM will bring WiFi, GPS, and a 2 MP camera. Oh, and it will have OS 4.6 on it from the very beginning. It still has the Direct Connect, and we are assuming the thicker size is due to lack of external antenna.
Boy Genius is predicting a Q4 release this year.

Motorola V950 “Renegade”
Rugged handset that is Military Spec for dust, shock, vibration and blowing rain. It also packs Direct Connect, GPS, 2 MP camera, and Sprint Music and TV, among other things.
Motorola “Monolith”
BGR reports that this is “some sort of entry-level SureType-type device”. Not much else is known about it at this point.
Others
Also available will be the Motorola i576, another mili-spec to replace the i570.
What else is shown on the roadmap that we can expect in the distant future? In Jan or Feb, we have a Motorola V8-ish phone (is this the VE20?), and a Sanyo iDEN/GSM hybrid. In Q2 of 2009, it looks like a Motorola “Immersion” phone (military-spec), the Sanyo Pro410, and a Samsung slider are on their way.
So which phones appeal to you, Sprint-Nextel fans?

We are just barely finishing up the excitement of playing around with a brand new iPhone, which means it’s time to get ready for the rumor mills for version 3. That’s correct, we have been hearing rumors all weekend about the concept of an iPhone Nano in time for Christmas.
The rumors apparently started at Daily Mail, based out of the UK. They are reporting that we can expect a $300 pre-paid Nano on O2’s network by December.
Nobody even knows if they hold any ground. However, Apple is so tight on secrecy that if it were true we probably wouldn’t know for sure until close to release time. It will be interesting to see what happens to this rumor; will it stick around or go away?

We want your comments on this. Does the concept of a smaller iPhone interest you? Let us know why or why not. I personally am not so interested mainly because I prefer the larger touchscreen.
It would involve a huge change in design to pull off a Nano. According to the Daily Mail, it was suggested the Nano phone would have a touch wheel on the back and display on the front so that numbers would be dialed from behind.

Sony’s at it again. First the big announcement July 22 on the trio of new Walkman phones, to be followed by another big announcement two weeks from now. Now we are hearing rumors that a G705 slider will be revealed at that meeting.
SE4m is featuring pictures of the G705 in Arabic, leading us to believe it may be geared for a release in that region first.
This phone supposedly will include GPS, 3.2 MP camera, 128 MB of internal memory and a slot for external memory. No 3.5 mm jack on this particular phone from what we can tell.

Will this be the phone released at Sony Ericsson’s next press event? Hard to say, but enjoy the pictures for now.

We just heard a tip from BlackberryCool that one source confirmed the price of the Bold, expected to launch July 25, will be sold initially for $299, the same price as a 16 GB iPhone 3G.
It is quite possible, however, that prices could drop by Christmas down to a low $199. That kind of price for the caliber of phone being released is very reasonable.
It was also discovered that RIM sent Rogers a final cut of OS 4.6 last week, which gives one less hurdle for Rogers to jump over in anticipation of the big release.

We are still holding our breath in anticipation of a July 25 release. Rumors abounded earlier today that Blackberry was delaying the Bold until September for most carriers; just as any rumor, though, everything mentioned in this post will either be confirmed or rejected soon. We’ll keep you up to date on the news.

Timex decided to team up with Core77 and hold a global design competition called 2154: the future of time design. Timex did so to celebrate 150 years of watch crafting.

The runner up of the competition is this concept design, the TX54. It is meant to be worn on your thumbnail, and stays clear except when activated.
Then you can just quickly glance at the time when needed. It is meant for the minimalist, but I would guess a minimalist could just glance at their cellphone as opposed to buying yet another gadget.
