Permian have been showing off their Bluetooth TV tuner, which allows digital television to be watched on a smartphone. The MOBView is a small, relatively featureless box that supports both DAB and T-DMB broadcasts and streams the content via Bluetooth to your handset.

Check out the video demo after the cut
The MOBView is battery powered (with a removable power-pack) and aside from a power button there appear to be no controls on the tuner unit itself. It looks to come with a separate TV app for your Windows Mobile smartphone, which allows you to search for channels.
Range and resistance to interference both seem good. Details on the MOBView are scant, with no suggestion of when (or if) the product will reach the market, and if it does so what sort of price tag it might carry.

Japanese mobile TV fans will have some new content to play with today, but only if they find a friend to enjoy it with. Pair Movie is a new drama series intended to be viewed on two cellphones held side by side; the different characters are displayed on the different screens, with the handsets synchronizing the footage via the infrared ports.
The project is the handiwork of Sony Music, advertizer Dentsu and a promotional company called Mobile Art. First available is a five-part drama, with the male character appearing on one cellphone and the female on the other, interacting despite playing on separate handsets.
Content appears to be accessed via 2D barcodes; a demonstration is online but the service is only available to Japanese users. There’s no suggestion of what future content will be offered, nor if this is just an one-off advertizing venture or has longer-term potential.

We all know that video commercials represent one of the easiest ways for manufacturers to present their products to consumers. But what if a commercial is misleading and presents a product as “the best thing ever” when in fact it is not – should that commercial still be aired on TV? Nope, it shouldn’t. And, in the UK, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) actually takes care of such commercials and bans them when needed.
The latest commercial to be banned from the UK folk’s TVs is made by Apple and O2 and it’s obviously made to showcase the hugely popular iPhone 3G.
According to BBC, the advert presents the Apple smartphone as being really really fast at loading Web pages or Google Maps.

The problem is that 17 people complained to the ASA about the ad, saying that it has misled them as to actually believe the iPhone 3G can accomplish said tasks at the speed shown in the video.
Sure, Apple UK did mention that the speed comparison is made related to the old iPhone 2G and it depends on network performance. Still, ASA’s decision was to ban the commercial.
I guess no one bans similar iPhone 3G commercials in the US, is it?

TiVo has been on a deal-cutting and service-launching spree lately. Their latest move? Launching a new mobile web site in beta that lets subscribers search for and record TV shows using only their cellphones. The new mobile phone-optimized web site is called TiVo Mobile, and anyone with an Internet-enabled phone will be able to access it.
Scheduling can be availed of those who already have TiVo and a Series2 or Series3 set-top box, while the entire site will be free for any visitor to use in searching for shows by actor or director names, titles or keywords. The best part is, the service is provided for free.

Daily Recommendations and Most Popular sections are also open to all subscribers and non-subscribers alike. Plus, TiVo’s popular “If you like this…” tool will be present to offer users a new way to discover shows that match their tastes.
If you can’t wait to try out TiVo Mobile on your handheld, do it now by going to m.tivo.com on your mobile phone’s web browser.

Here’s another clone out of China. The HB 778 dual SIM card phone looks a lot like a phone we know. Yep. The Touch Diamond or Touch Pro. It sports a 2.8-inch touch screen and of course, dual slider design that slides up for the numeric keypad and side slide for gaming keys instead of a QWERTY keyboard. You’ll get a TV function, FM radio, 2.8-inch Touch screen, touch keypad with vibrator, 1.0-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, dual SIM slot, and microSD slot. It even comes preloaded with classic games like Super Mario. The very familiar HB 778 will cost you $151.

Want to turn your iPod into a TV? How about one of those old TV/VCR combos? I can think of a better choice of TV, but at least this will increase your screen size and give you more volume. This mini TV-set magnifies your iPod’s screen up to 2.8 inches. The iPod Nano 3G TV will be available soon for the retail price of about $23. Your iPod slips into the back as shown. It probably would have been cooler if it slid in the VHS slot.
