How would you change Microsoft’s flash Zune?

Hey, we gave you the opportunity to voice your opinion on Microsoft’s original Zune back in August, so it’s only fair that the new kids on the block get their turn in the ring, too. This go ’round, however, we’re adding a little twist — focus your attention on the flash-based iterations only. The diminutive Zune 4 and Zune 8 were probably more highly anticipated than their HDD-based siblings, and considering that the rumors were literally all over the map leading up to the release, we can’t say anything really shocked us when launch day came and went. Granted, we were a bit bummed to find that these wouldn’t feature TV outputs, but hey, at least we got the option of adding more than just two lines of text to the thing’s rear, right?

By now, you’ve had more than ample time to give the flash-based Zune of your choice some serious play, and we’re sure you’ve logged a couple of complaints in your mind, so here’s your chance to get it all out in the open. If given the keys to the Zune 4 / 8 design lab, what changes would you implement? Add in a few more pixels? How about a few more gigabytes? Melt the whole thing down and shape it like a discus? Or is your heart still longing for the oh-so-elusive Zune phone? Whatever your wish may be, feel free to let the whole world know in comments below — you never know who’ll tune in.

How would you change Nokia’s N95?

We know, Nokia’s hotly anticipated (and equally well received) N95 has been shipping to all corners of the globe for much of the year — save for America, of course. Recently, however, those of us parked in the US of A were able to grab hold of a 3G iteration to call our very own, and while we’re mighty confident many owners are just glad to (finally) have one, there’s a heightened level of expectations that comes along with a price tag this large. Sure, it’s hard to knock the 5-megapixel camera, blazing HSDPA support and integrated GPS, but even Achilles had his heel.

For those of you fortunate enough to own this here mobile, why not release a little steam by venting to us those minor, yet inexplicably annoying quirks that are preventing the N95 from being the phone it could otherwise be? Not quite satisfied with the design? Slightly perturbed by the current storage capacity limits? Do you truly feel as if this thing should handle laundry and Quake in its spare time? C’mon, we’re confident this heralded handset has a few niggles holding it down, and while a certain segment of you are already enjoying the niceties presented by the latest firmware release, we know this thing is a few features shy of unequivocal domination. Let’s hear it! Oh, and don’t spend too much time bragging about ownership — let’s get to the good stuff, k?

How would you change Rock Band?

There’s only a select few titles that are really worth obsessing over for nearly half a year, but apparently, Rock Band is indeed a member of that upper echelon. After months of drooling over images of the game’s accompanying hardware assortment, the star-studded title has finally landed on store shelves, and according to Electronic Arts, copies haven’t been hanging around for long. In a report posted yesterday, EA noted that it moved “hundreds of thousands” of boxes over the Thanksgiving weekend, and judging by most every review we’ve seen, the response has been overwhelmingly positive. ‘Course, with so much critical hardware packed in, it’s not terribly surprising to hear that some early adopters found a few flaws, but it seems that EA has fessed up to the issues and is offering VIP treatment (read: immediate replacements) to those with jacked up axes.

Now that you’ve had some time to work out those vocal cords, brush up on your drum rolls and mosh in your own living room, inquiring minds are dying to know how you would have done things differently. We’ve already given you a shot to vouch for your rhythm game of choice, but haters and posse members alike can feel free to step up to the proverbial microphone and voice your wishes. Would you have thrown in a Telecaster rather than a Strat? How about embedding an accelerometer in the microphone in order to accumulate kudos for mindless twirling? Totally bummed by the omission of a wildly flamboyant mic stand a la Steven Tyler? Whatever your beef, don’t hold back on this one — your All Access pass to remixing Rock Band has (un)officially been granted.

How would you change Windows Home Server?

Windows Home Server hasn’t quite taken a full year to make its way from being a mere announcement all the way into your living room, but it came darn close. That being said, we’re not fielding any excuses as to why you haven’t had enough time to at least test out the RC1, get a feel for what WHS devices would eventually be unveiled and read up on outside reviews, alright? Granted, you may have been put off by the on-again / off-again release date debacle surrounding HP’s MediaSmart Home Server, but even if you weren’t keen on the unit that practically became the early face of the software, we’re confident that many of you were able to find a box that tickled your fancy from the cornucopia of alternatives.

Now that Microsoft’s latest flavor of Windows is out in the wild for anyone who cares to acquire it, we’re wondering just how satisfied you are with the final product. How irritated are you that you can’t just load up WHS on any old PC / case-o-discs? Has it totally revolutionized your (previously non-existent) backup schedule? How functional have you found remote access to truly be? Has this quelled the bickering between your offspring over who gets to use the PC with all the Tears for Fears tracks on it? Feel free to share with us your favorite add-ins (along with ones you’re currently working up), and don’t hesitate to dole out as much criticism / adoration as necessary to get yourself noticed.

How would you change Asus’ Eee PC?

The Eee PC’s journey from introduction to mass production hasn’t been filled with too many surprises, and aside from the obligatory price / release date speculation, unexpected Russian review and even more chatter over the almighty pricetag, it’s been a pretty smooth ride. Granted, everyone and their long lost cousin was buzzing about the potential of getting a fully-featured machine in their laps for under two bills, but as these things always seem to go, final figures (for individual consumers, at least) managed to creep up a fair bit. Price hikes or not, it didn’t seem to matter much come launch day, as dear ole NewEgg managed to sell right out of its initial allotment, though we’re left to wonder if it didn’t really have a few more to go around.

Regardless, just about everyone who managed to get ahold of Asus’ little darling came away impressed, if not thoroughly pleased, with how much functionality was stuffed into a sub-$400, two-pound ultraportable. Of course, critics were not hesitant to admit that the bugger wasn’t perfect, and we’ve all ideas that a number of you early adopters out there share similar sentiments. So without further ado, why not give the world a piece of your mind on the matter? How would you meliorate the Eee PC? Make it more functional, more fashionable or just (even) more affordable? Chime on in below with your recommendations for the Eee PC Rev. B — it’s not like we don’t already know it’s coming.

How would you change Leopard?

Alright, so you’ve had seven whole days (and a few minutes now on the East coast, but who’s counting?) to wrap your loving / skeptical arms around Apple’s latest operating system, toss it on your machine and test out “300+ new features” that Cupertino managed to include. During the past week, we — along with quite a few others — looked this OS up and down in order to determine if it really was worth the $129 asking price, and while we wouldn’t deem Leopard unflawed, we’ve yet to find ourselves itching to downgrade. ‘Course, we’re sure there’s a plethora of you out there still perusing the feature list and wondering if it’ll work on your near-decade-old machine, but this space is for the resolute souls who wiped their calendar clean last weekend to sit diligently behind a keyboard / mouse and put OS X 10.5 to the test.

For those of you who fit the aforementioned description to a T, we’re beyond curious to know how your experiences have been. Have you found that Leopard makes your life a little less hectic? Roiled senseless by countless bugs? Are there any features you wish Steve’s drones would have programmed in at the eleventh hour? Considering that over two million of you have already made the leap to Apple’s latest feline, we know there’s a flood of squawks just waiting to be unleashed — so go on, we’re all ears.

How would you change the Palm Centro?

Palm’s Centro hasn’t exactly lit the world on fire, but might it have if it were simply tweaked in a few key areas? As we’ve done a number of times before, we’re presenting to you yet another Palm device that could probably use some refining, and we’re curious to know what alterations you would’ve made if given the chance. It’s been an interesting past couple of months for Palm, to say the very least, and while the firm’s CEO has shockingly responded to an open letter, saddened us all by announcing yet another OS delay and inexplicably (okay, maybe not so much) nixed the Foleo during that period, it still found time to officially introduce the sub-$100 Centro at an admittedly underwhelming DigitalLife press conference.

We’re not setting out to beat a proverbial dead horse or anything — after all, you know precisely how we feel about the device — but there’s nothing like a healthy dose of criticism (or adoration, to be fair) from the masses. So, here’s your chance to let loose and tell the rest of us Earthlings exactly how you would’ve re-engineered the Centro. Are those keys a tad too diminutive for your liking? Is the whole “Sprint-only” thing cramping your style? Or is Palm’s latest darling exactly what your heart desired? Rant away.
