It’s that time again. Technabob is looking for a few good writers to expand its coverage of all things geeky, gadgety and gamey. If you’re fanatical about video games, gadgets, electronics, hack & mods, or generally offbeat tech stuff, you could be just the guy or gal we’re looking for.

You’ll need to be able to source your own stories, and be able to write with wit, sass, attitude or at least be slightly charming. You’ve also got to be consistent. I’m looking for people who can write 7 to 10 posts a week, maybe more if the readers fall in love with what you have to say. A solid grip on the English language is also a must. You should also have at least some experience using blog software such as Wordpress, Blogger or Movable Type - and basic image cropping and sizing in Photoshop or other image editing tools is required.
Now before you get dollar signs in your eyes, I’ll tell you that blogging for Technabob won’t make you a millionaire. But it’s a great opportunity to expose your literary talents to hundreds of thousands of readers each month.
Want to give it a shot? Pick a topic that you think will appeal to Technabob readers, and send along at least two appropriate writing samples to tips@technabob.com. Be sure to include your contact information, and a brief note on why you’d be the perfect addition to the Technabob crew.
I look forward to reading your submissions.

In the last couple of days, Technabob has rolled out a brand new look for those of you visiting the site from your iPhone or iPod Touch. The new design lets you quickly browse the top stories on the site, and when you click through to a story, you’ll see a special version that’s much easier to read on the small screen.

It’s also optimized for faster loading on 3G and EDGE - for those times you can’t find a speedy WiFi connection. You can always toggle back and forth between the regular version of the site and the iPhone version if you don’t care for the new look.
To view the new version of the site, just head on over to the Technabob home page using your iPhone or iPod Touch, and it should auto-detect your device. Once you’re there, be sure to check the “+” then “Add to Home Screen” button on your device to save a bookmark and a spanking new icon for quick and easy access to our latest posts.
Enjoy… and post a comment if you have any feedback about the new layout.
[Thanks to the guys over at Brave New Code - their WPtouch add-ons for Wordpress made it easy as pie to create this new version of the site.]

How’d you like to win a really cool modern watch from Tokyoflash? Well, if you can tell time, you could win a free watch! Read on, and learn how.

So here’s the deal: Head on over to the Tokyoflash website and find the product pages for the each of the following 10 modern watch designs:

The 3 people who get the most answers correct will win their choice any one of the watches listed. If more than 3 of you get the entire list correct, winners will be picked from a random drawing from the top entries.
Thanks to the guys over at Tokyoflash for providing the prizes for this giveaway!

The girls of Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) are undoubtedly some of the dopest chicks you’ll ever encounter. Not only do they do they possess mad algebraic skillz and could probably kick your ass in World of Warcraft, they have the only finest taste in tech blogs.

In this hilarious rap vid clip from the school’s CMU Gurlzzz, pay careful attention starting around the 1:45 mark, and you just might hear a mention of a little blog that’s near and dear to my heart.
Excuse me now I gotta catch up with my blogs (blogs)
If you don’t like that then I’ll throw you to the dogs (dogs)
And if you DIGG it, then you my dawg
Gizmodo Notcot and technabob
Yep. When you start having your blog mentioned alongside DIGG, Gizmodo and Notcot in a viral YouTube clip, you know you’ve arrived.
CMU Gurlzzz, technabob loves you too.

I’d like to send a warm welcome to the latest and greatest member of the Technabob family, Karen Merzenich. Karen has just joined our writing team, bringing her unique viewpoint and wit to the pages of this humble little website.

She joins the Technabob ranks as a contributing author, and will be helping to bring you lots of offbeat and entertaining geek craft, design, and other fun stuff.
Karen is the founder and owner of MailboxTees, a t-shirt subscription service, and writes about tech, design, art, and shopping for the MailboxTees blog.
A former pastry chef, she also writes about food and cooking on off the (meat)hook. People are surprised to learn that this seemingly normal lass is actually a closeted sci-fi geek who has a full-size Galaga arcade game in her guest room, and who spends many a day and night trolling the deepest, darkest corners of the internet for obscure Stargate fan fiction.
Here are just a few of her initial Technabob posts, (with many more to come):
Anyone with a real live Galaga machine in their guest bedroom is cool in my book.
[Be sure to check out Karen’s other websites: MailboxTees, MailboxTees blog, and off the (meat)hook.]

I can hardly believe it myself, but Technabob is almost two years old, and with hundreds of thousands of readers each month, I’ve decided that we’re getting big enough that it’s time to add at least one new part-time writer into the mix.

Up until now, I’ve written 99.9% of Technabob’s 2000+ stories myself. While I really want to be a total control freak, I’ve realized that my readers crave more content than I can handle all by my little old self. That said, I’m certain that at least one of you out there is up to the challenge of finding wondrous new geekery and weird science.
If you’re convinced that you know your stuff in video games, gadgets, electronics, hack & mods, or generally offbeat techie stuff, you could be the chosen one. You’ll need to be able to source (at least some of) your own stories, have a witty, irreverant or otherwise sharp-as-a-tack writing style, and it won’t hurt if you’ve got a little experience cropping and scaling images using Photoshop, Picnik or the like.
I’ll tell you in advance that blogging for Technabob won’t make you wealthy, but it’s a great opportunity to expose your writing talents to tons of people, and if you happen to write your own blog, it’s a nice way to get a bit of extra traffic.
Ready to throw your hat into the ring? Just e-mail an appropriate writing sample or two to tips@technabob.com, along with your contact information, and a brief explanation of why you think you’d be the ideal addition to the Technabob editorial crew.

Sorry for the lack of posts over the last 24 hours or so. Not only have I been traveling, my hosting provider decided to blow up our server infrastructure overnight, which kept Technabob offline for about 10 hours.

Everything is back up and running, but there was a little nervewracking to say the least.
Regular posting should resume later tonight. Thanks for your patience.

We’ll admit, we can’t recall seeing a rollable silicon keyboard that deserved to be called gorgeous, but Brando’s iteration isn’t even close. ‘Course, those enamored with glowing lights and plastic-y gizmos may not find much room to grumble, but all aesthetics aside, this thing is reportedly “strong, silent and indestructible.” Moreover, the $27 device is said to be dustproof and water-resistant, can be connected via USB or PS/2 and comes in white, pink, blue and green.
