JVC’s Sound Garden concept is a modular speaker system

JVC’s Sound Garden concept is a modular speaker systemJVC’s Sound Garden concept blends tree-hugging with design. It’s a full hi-fi speaker system with bass-reflex ports and little pot areas for your plants. (Which don’t have that much room.) And it’s all made of some wonder material called “eco-plastic”. If you want, you can connect a whole bunch together for massive sound and massive plant life. Just a concept right now, but rest assured they are working on more music/plant tech as I type this.

Magic Message Mirror home security system

Magic Message Mirror home security systemThe Magic Message Mirror is for those who want to combine their love of Disney with home security. Mirror mirror on the wall, who’s the safest one of all? You will be, of course. The portrait in the photo above is actually a home security device.

Just wire it into your existing home security system and it will appear to be an ordinary mirror until it’s triggered by someone walking in front of the beam. That’s when the scary apparition appear just like in the Snow White movie, yelling prerecorded phrases you’ve recorded. The mirror is actually a 30 inch LCD display with a CGI character known as “Basil of the Mirror”. I’m not sure it would scare a thief enough to leave and give up his life of crime. It would probably scare him for a few seconds until he realized what’s going on. Then they would likely steal the mirror, because it’s cool.

Controlling computers with tongue

The good guys at Georgia Tech are trying something new which will help the disabled persons to break from the shackles of disability. They call it as a Tongue Drive System and can help the disabled to communicate with their wheelchairs to maneuver them, manage home appliances or even control computers. The peculiar traits of tongue being tireless and connected to the brain, makes it more easy for the impaired people to operate.

A magnet, about 3mm wide is kept on the user’s tongue and the sensors are placed on the side of the cheeks which track the wiggling movement. The movement tracked by the sensors is then sent to the software which converts it into command to perform.

The technology is cool but the commercial version will be far away from availability (at least for now). Currently, the researchers are working to find a way to diminish the size of the headgear (which holds the sensors), better software coding and effective usage of batteries for wireless functionality.

Hive outdoor audio system

Hive outdoor audio systemThis simple and rugged speaker known as the Hive Audio System looks like it’s popping out of the ground and doing a bad Darth Vader impersonation. The Hive was specially designed for outdoor environments and comes with a sound tube that prevents the elements from damaging its precious innards, while amplifying sound.

The base gives it added stability, and since it’s wireless, the speaker can be linked to other units to form a “hive”. You know, these guys pride themselves on being the Borg of sound. Cool as the idea is, it’s just a concept. No word on when it may become something more.

Vertebrae vertical bathroom system
You can see right off the bat that this is an ideal way to save space in your bathroom. It uses very little floor space and so the Vertebrae vertical bathroom system is a perfect multi-purpose bathroom unit for luxury apartments with a space shortage. The name obviously comes from it’s design.

It houses everything you expect to find in a regular bathroom, it even has showerheads, a sink, a cistern, a potty and lots of storage units. This has got to be the ultimate space saving bathroom design.
