Nokia Build comes to UK, still for Nokia 7310 Supernova only

I thought Nokia Build was a great idea when I first found out about it. Imagine, designing the exterior of a phone for yourself and afterwards being able to take it home with you. Genius! But then I realized it was only being offered in France, and so I was immediately put off.

Fast forward to now, lo and behold, users from the UK may now also avail of the said service. Nokia Build has also hit the UK, apparently, but it still remains limited to orders of the Nokia 7310 Supernova and nothing else. It’s a good-looking phone, but a bit more options wouldn’t have hurt.

Since Nokia Build for the UK was in English, I finally got the chance to try it out. Trying out designs turned out easier than I thought. One doesn’t even need to register in order to let his creativity lose. Nokia will only take a bit of your info if you decide to buy any of the designed phones on virtual display.

Like I said in the beginning, this is a great idea, letting users in on a small part of the designing process, but hopefully it expands to more markets and more models are added for selection in the future.

Nokia Build lets French users order custom-designed handsets online

Being a model in Nokia’s Supernova line of handsets, the Nokia 7310 is already eye-catching as it is. But for some users, the design may still seem dull, and could use additional enhancements to liven up its profile.

Enter Nokia France’s Nokia Build online service, which lets users pick custom and rather wildly designed Nokia 7310 Supernovas that would better suit their personality. There are pre-built template designs, as well as the option to create a completely original one from scratch, all while using the Nokia 7310 Supernova as one’s canvas.

Nokia Build

As usual for a Nokia site, Nokia Build is done completely with Flash animation. So there’s no way to use third-party translators for French to English. But if you know your French, you’re sure to have a blast going crazy with the design of the Nokia 7310 Supernova on it.

Nokia drops 7 new low and mid-range phones

Nokia was the first one to recognize the power of upcoming and emerging markets. They created a niche for low budget phones which eventually made them the undisputed leader in the mobile phone market. Still being bullish on the bottom of the pyramid, Nokia today announced seven new phones costing not more than $120.

The cheapest to be unveiled today was Nokia 1202. It will sell for $32 by the end of this year making it one of the Nokia’s cheapest phones. 1202 has a monochrome display, loud ringtones and an added feature of flashlight to make cheapsters excited. Nokia 1661 on the other hand, raises the bar a little bit with a large color screen. 1661 will come in Q1 next year at a price tag of $39.

Going higher comes Nokia 2320 classic, 2323 classic and 2330 classic. All these devices support Mail on Ovi and Nokia Life Tools and are expected to retail in Q2 of 2009. In addition to it, 2323 supersedes 2320 with inclusion of FM Radio, browser while 2330 tops both of them with an integrated VGA camera. 2320 and 2323 will sell for $52 whereas 2330 classic to go for $65.

For fashionistas looking for a cheap fashionable phone, Nokia has revealed 7100 Supernova in the Supernova range. The chic slider phone sports a color screen, 1.3 megapixel camera, FM Radio and Ovi. It will come out this year for $97.

The costliest announcement for today yet the cheapest music phone from Nokia is 5130 XpressMusic. The phone packs a lot of music functions like FM Radio, standard 3.5mm audio jack and dedicated music keys. It also has a 2 megapixel camera and a support for few Ovi services. Expected in Q1 2009 for $117.

Nokia 7100s (Supernova) details emerge

Nokia’s range of basic phones will soon welcome a new member, in the incarnation of Nokia 7100s.

The 7100s is a little slider designed in the same manner as the Nokia 6710, which, with its 3.2 MP camera, can be seen as the Supernova flagship phone. That’s why the new 7100s might actually be officially released as Nokia 7100 Supernova.

Nokia 7100s, or whichever its name will be in the end, looks cheaper than the 6710 and has fewer features, so it will probably be first outed in emerging markets.

Here is what the phone looks like:

The specs of Nokia 7100s are said to include:

Nokia 7100s (or Nokia 7100 Supernova) should have a retail price of about $280, although for the moment there are no clear details regarding its release.

Nokia cuts phone prices to liven up competition

Some Nokia phone models are the cheapest you’ll be able to find anywhere. Yet, there’s still always room for a price reduction.

According to a report from Reuters, market data and industry sources point out that Nokia made recent price cuts for various phone models in its portfolio, to put “pressure on its rivals’ already thin profits.”

Nokia cuts phone prices to liven up competition

Market data from Nokia’s home land, Finland, showed that the XpressMusic models 5310 and 5610, as well as the Nokia N81 8GB, were among the phones that received the steepest price cuts.

Nokia’s closest competitors seem to be helping them in this situation as well, since neither Sony Ericsson nor Motorola have anything to brag about when it comes to the latest quarterly sales.

If anything, this would again give the consumer more incentive to go for a Nokia phone than otherwise. And besides, new models like the Nokia N96 are going to go on sale soon, meaning there just might be more price cuts just around the corner.
