mega man energy drink helps you beat down robot masters

To herald the launch of much-anticipated game Mega Man 9, an officially licensed Mega Man sports/energy drink is coming out in Japan.

The drink will be called “Rockman E Can Drink” because it’s coming out in Japan and Mega Man is called Rockman over there. The drink will cost ¥137, or about $1.25 a can. No word on what it tastes like, though.

This drink brings to mind past retro video game-inspired energy drinks such as Super Mario Power-Up and Donkey Kong Jungle Juice. All of this gives me a great idea. Why doesn’t someone open up a place that has arcade games and serves arcade cocktails? The chef could dress like the chef from BurgerTime, and the waiters could dress like angry pickle slices. Great idea, no?

what mario eats for dinner: the 1-up mushroom burger

In case you’re looking to geek out your 4th of July BBQ, here’s an idea for you- make mushroom burgers that look like the 1-up mushrooms in Super Mario Bros. After all of the Mario-themed cakes and cupcakes and whatnot, it’s refreshing to see someone branch out into the savory realm.

Mario Burger

Instructables user momo! created this masterpiece and describes the process right here. She dyed the bun with food coloring and made the spots out of mozzarella circles.

Mario Burger Buns

What I like about this most is that the burger is actually a mushroom burger so it doesn’t just look like a 1-up mushroom, it tastes like one too. Of course if you’re more of a traditionalist you could go with cow flesh and just top it with some mushrooms. Regardless, I think a plate of spotty green buns would be a definite head-turner at any event. Especially if you happen to wear overalls, a cap, and an oversized mustache.

Super Mario wedding cake is a work of art

Super Mario wedding cake is a work of art
This has to be the awesomest geek cake ever. It was Flickr’ user M.A.L.’s wedding cake, and it seems to have everything in the Mario world represented nicely. It’s got Toad, Yoshi, Piranha plants, mushrooms, even the Chain Chomp guy. The castle on a planet was inspired from Super Mario Galaxy. The cake was created by Beth from Let Them Eat Cake in Costa Mesa, California.

Why don’t people ever divorce with such style? They should. You’re getting the hell away from each other after all which is cause to celebrate. Marry with a Mario cake and divorce with a Zelda cake, that’s what I say. Or a Tetris cake, that can be thrown at each other.

super mario goomba cufflinks are hot, or not

These pixelated cufflinks feature the dreaded goombas of Super Mario Bros. lore.

Goomba Cufflinks

Etsy crafter pixelparty makes them from shrink plastic (like ShrinkyDinks?) and silver-tone hardware. He hilariously notes that “…if mario doesn’t get his princess (who seems to be castle hopping, maybe she’s the player and mario is getting played) well then he’ll never be a player. there just aren’t that many girls into mustaches these days.” Amen, my friend, amen. Also, overalls are not flattering on a grown man. I’m just saying.

If you’ve got more of a penchant for koopas than goombas, don’t fear- those are available as well.

Koopa Cufflinks

You can buy them at pixelparty’s shop for $16. He’s open to custom orders… that means you’re on deck, taunting BurgerTime pickle slice…

play any nes game for free in firefox with firenes

FireNes is a little Firefox widget that allows you to instantaneously play any NES game in your browser. It’s free and it’s incredibly easy to install and use and it’s probably going to ruin my life because I can’t stop playing with it. It requires only a one-time, 5-second download to have a sidebar chock full o’ NES goodness.

Super Mario Bros 3 in FireNes

The FireNes site is in Spanish; here is a not-too-terrific English translation. All you need to know is this: go to FireNes, click on “Install” (”Instalar” if you’re on the Spanish page and are feeling fancy), then relaunch Firefox. Go to the Tools menu and click on FireNes. It will pull up a menu of any game. Right click on the game to edit options and learn which keys to use.

You’re lucky I even wrote this post considering I’ve spent the last 3 hours “researching” the subject matter. And by “researching” of course I mean re-mastering Q-Bert and amassing coins in Mario-land- because they have a bunch of retro games on there in addition to the NES favorites.

Cooked WinMo 6 ROM verified for PPC-6700, XV6700

Filed under:

Well ladies and gents, it seems the rumored Windows Mobile 6 update for the Sprint PPC-6700 / Verizon XV6700 is looking a little more legit. True to his word, ppcgeeks user Helmi_c showed us that the proof is indeed in the pudding with a goodly pile of pics of what appears to be a real handset running the updated operating system. It should be dropping tomorrow — though no word of an exact time — so feel free to hit the gallery we’ve put together while you wait.
