the periodic table of sci-fi

Check out the new Periodic Table of Sci-Fi Film and Television and let me know if you can find all of your favorite shows and movies. And if you can’t, feel free to complain in the comments below.

periodic_table_of_sci_fi

Overall, I think you’ll find the table more inclusive of your faves than not. Illustrator Kris Straub of Starslip and Chainsawsuit designed this graphic which offers elements for everything from Spc(1999) to DS9 on the table. I’m just stoked that they included Chln(of Men) on the Metallcrichtonide chart, and TW(elve Monkeys) in the Cameronkubriclarkine groups. And it’s only fitting that Lgn(Logan’s Run) and Du(ne) are on the “inert” section.

You can see a bigger image of the entire table here, and can buy posters of the table over at TopatoCo in either 14.5″ x 18″ ($18 USD) or oversize 22″ x 27.5″ ($28) versions to hang on your wall. Right alongside your Alessandra Torresani pin-up poster.

avps3: alien chestburster busts through ps3 [casemod]

I loves me some ooey-gooey Alien Chestbursters, and I certainly enjoy the occasional PS3 game. This over-the-top casemod combines both.

alien_chestburster_casemod_ps3

Modder GivinTats originally did another Alien casemod a while back, and then had someone reach out to him to make a custom mod featuring a gory Chestburster pushing its way out of the side of a poor old 1st gen PlayStation 3.

Since the original movie Chestburster is said to assimilate some traits of its host, GivinTats decided to make him a bit of an alien cyborg instead of a straight-up organic creature. Check out the blood, guts and parts spraying forth from the side of the PS3. Yummy. The broken circuit board coming out of the cracked open case carcass is an especially nice touch – although it would suck if that were the actual circuitry from the PS3 itself.

repurpose that junk into a smokin’ hot raygun

If you know how to turn old camera and radio parts into a real raygun, please let me know. Until that day comes (and I’m hopeful that it will!), we’ll have to settle for checking out completely awesome non-working rayguns constructed from random odds and ends.

steampunk raygun

Look out, y’all–it’s atom-powered, too, for that super scary vintage sci fi look. It’s hard to believe such a beautiful project was put together from bits of other items. That handle? Not a pistol grip at all; it began life attached to a Super 8 camera. And just look at this incredible wiring!

steampunk raygun

All I have lying around are old, dead cellphones. If someone will post a tutorial on building cool things from those, I’m totally in.

Star Trek wall mural turns your room into the bridge of the Enterprise

Star Trek wall muralLiving in your mom’s basement has some serious drawbacks, I’m sure. Why not spruce it up a little bit. Live a little. Well, now your dream of living on the bridge of the Enterprise can come true with this realistic wall mural, available for pre-order and shipping next month.

Decorate with some tribbles. Install some turbolift sound effects for when your mom comes down to do some laundry. Most importantly, buy this Captain Kirk command chair.

It will cost you $187 federation credits.

Star Trek line of Urns and Caskets

Star Trek line of Urns and CasketsWe knew about the coffin that looks like a photon torpedo, but the urns are new to us. You can now feel free to die and STILL pretend you are in the Trek universe. At long last the caskets will be available in early 2009, so that all your friends can get in costume and stand over it, reciting classic lines from ST II.

But that’s not all. Monuments and vaults will also be available soon from the company. They are really working hard to profit from cold geek death. Maybe their next trick will be tricking out your corpse in all kinds of Borg gear. That I can get behind.

Maybe some Borg cube ships for gravestones…

ACME Ray Gun pen

ACME Ray Gun penI haven’t written in pen for a long time, but had I had the Ray Gun pen, I would be writing in pen constantly, making pew pew sounds followed by explosions. This pen comes from a company named ACME and is clearly the best pen ever made.

The “Ray Gun” is a retractable roller ball with a “special ‘gun sight’-shaped clip,” a stand that completes the look and even some cool packaging. It was created by U.K. designer Ben Hall and will be available this month for $130.

The Ray Gun pen truly is mightier than the sword.

Lumitop illuminated clothing

Lumitop illuminated clothingLooks like Lumitop, the illuminated clothing that allows your boobs to light up the night, is making the rounds again in the intertubz. We first told you about it way back in August of last year. We just thought we would remind you that you can in fact still order this clothing since we’ve been out and about and haven’t seen any of you wearing it.

So what are you waiting for? Don’t you want to look like a stripper from the Tron universe? The one pictured will cost you 149.00EUR. I suppose one downside is that people will only be looking at your breasts and they won’t remember your face. Oh well. What did expect? This is cutting edge Sci-Fi fashion.

Wearing these, you’ll never have a tech problem again as it will draw every geek to you like moths to a flame.
