Lucas long ago figured out that a geek and his money soon part ways when you make things look like R2-D2. This one is perhaps dorkier then most, because what we have here amounts to a remote control lightsaber, which you use to send your remote webcam wheeling to and fro in order to capture footage of your immediate area. For the price of £299.00 what you get is a basic VGA resolution camera in droids clothing.
The lightsaber has light and sound effects from the films and the stand connects to your USB port so that R2 can be controlled wirelessly. The webcam comes pre-loaded with R2 sound effects as well. For the price you figure they’d at least throw in a restraining bolt. Or some leg rockets…

This device explains a long held theory of mine. Geordi LaForge was not blind, he was controlling remote-controlled vehicles when he should have been focusing on his engineering duties. The Pilot View FPV 2400 is designed for use with radio-controlled aircraft and cars.
There’s a wireless camera in the cockpit that sends live first-person footage to the freaky goggles that Fabio is wearing in the pic.(Wait that’s a gal. Sorry.) It’s a pretty awesome idea, but for $549, there are probably better ways to spend the money. And let’s face it, they need to up the design of the visor.

Remember being a kid and spending hours in the tub playing with your trusty buddy the rubber duck? It didn’t take batteries, it didn’t talk and it had no flashing lights or engine, yet somehow he stayed afloat.
Meet the future of rubber duck technology. An R/C Rubber Duck with a wireless RF transmitter, so you can guide your duck anywhere in a tub as long as the batteries have juice. 5 minutes of charging time will give your yellow friend about 15 minutes of life. Like all ducks, this one is of course, waterproof. It will retail for £14.99. Though I’m not sure what it is we are accomplishing here, I mean most tubs are of such a size that you reach your arm out and your duck is never far away. I’m guessing this means that rubber duck races are about to get really intense.

Who says you can’t take your electronic gadgets in the bathtub with you? The latest in rubber duckie technology lets you steer your fine feathered friend around the tub from afar.

Using a wireless RF transmitter, you can make the yellow aquatic bird tool around as you splish-splash in your bath. A pair of motorized propellers moves the little guy through the water, and let you steer duckie to the left, right, forwards or backwards. A quick 5-minute charge will give you about 15-minutes of bathtime fun. And yes, both the duck and controller are waterproof, so there’s no worries about electrocuting yourself.
The R/C Rubber Duck is available from I Want One of Those for £14.99 (appx. $26.98 USD). Quack.

For a geek on the go, checking for wi-fi is like checking to see if it’s raining outside. It’s an essential resource that is necessary for proper operation of the many gadgets that we carry. (more…)

If you’ve been scouting an unobtrusive range extender for your ZigBee network, look no further than Digi International’s XBee Wall Router. If you’ll recall, this isn’t the first ZigBee extender sharing the same name (acquisitions tend to do that), but this little bugger simply plugs into a standard AC socket and “patches areas within a ZigBee network where signal erosion or loss occurs due to distance limitations or air interference.” Additionally, it serves to create “multiple pathways, increasing the redundancy of the mesh communications,” and the US flavor even includes an integrated mounting tab to prevent “accidental unplugging.” Sound like just what you need? If so, you can snag one right now for $79.

Junxion Box is back and just as green as ever, this time with some new firmware and a few fairly significant upgrades. Among other things, the new JB-120 model (and updated 2.0 firmware) adds support for 802.11g WiFi with WPA Enterprise, so-called “GRE tunneling” to allow for more flexibility in establishing enterprise VPNs, a 50% faster boot time, a slightly modified enclosure that can accommodate more cellular antennas and, perhaps most notably, HSUPA support for some improved 3G action. If that’s enough to convince you to upgrade, you can apparently grab one now $700, with a WiFi-less version also available for $600.

NEC has announced their new draft 2.0 wireless router which is half the size of its previous model. There’s not much info on this NEC router yet such as price and release date, but hopefully there will be soon.
