A good race at home is cranking up PS3, pairing Gran Turismo 5 with my Logictech Driving Force GT, but now I have a second thought about that amateur set-up of mine. I doubt any gaming enthusiast would disagree with me after looking at the state of the art Fanatec simulation driving wheel. That’s one good looking driving wheel!

Named after Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Fanatec’s driving wheel features hand stitched leather wheel with genuine Alcantara leather and metal Porsche emblem just likes the real car. The paddle shifters made of stainless steel, and the Clubsport pedals are CNC machined aluminum constructed for utmost precision and durability. But look is not what Fanatec has to offer.
Like most intermediate driving wheel, the feedback force is adjustable; but Fanatec unit is no ordinary driving wheel. The feedback system has three level of sensitivity, dual-vibration motors and a Mabuchi 550 Series paired with a smooth belt drive to simulate a much realistic and sensational racing experience. Enough said, pairing this with Reensport Cockpit, you got the perfect set-up!

Just in case you haven’t spent enough money on your PS3, there’s a hot new attachment, just in time for the holidays: a wireless keypad add-on designed to make communicating simple.

At $49.99, the add-on may seem a little expensive, particularly when most gamers gravitate toward voice-communication in online gaming, but sometimes a little typing is necessary. The keypad can also be used with the PS3’s web browser, which is where it’s likely to be most helpful. Unlike the Xbox 360’s Chatpad, which fits into the bottom of the controller, Sony’s keypad nestles into the top.

Sony’s wireless keypad is set for release December 15 and can be pre-ordered at Amazon. If you simply can’t wait, you can get one at Play-Asia right now for $49.90. If you could afford a PS3, you might just have the cash to burn.

Ubisoft will be releasing a DLC pack for Far Cry 2 and it looks like you won’t have to wait very long for the update. In fact, before November ends, you should be able to get the DLC, which is called “The Fortune’s Pack.”

For just $10, you’ll be able to get this DLC pack for either the Xbox 360 or the Playstation 3. The update includes a new Unimog truck and a Quad, making for additional vehicle options. Plus, new weapons will be available including a louder sawed-off shotgun, a crossbow and more.
Multiplayer mode will provide four new maps as well including Last Resort, Lake Smear, Cheap Labor and Fort Fury. We don’t know at the moment if this DLC will be available for the PC version of the game as well.

Sony have been demonstrating Gran Turismo 5 on a new FED display, with the game running at a massive 240fps. Four PS3 consoles working in partnership were required to reach that framerate on the 19-inch Nano-Spindt FED (Field Emissions Display) developed by Sony, intended to show how well the FED technology handles fast moving images without blurring.

A single PS3 is capable of producing a 60fps image, hence the need for four of the consoles in this demonstration setup. FEP relies on 10,000 electron sources (the nano-spindt emitters) per pixel, which cause a fluorescent substance to produce light. If that sounds vaguely similar to a CRT display, you’d be right; it also shares CRT’s wider view angles, deeper blacks, rich color tones and resilience to motion blur.
Viewers of the demonstration were apparently “baffled by the quality of the image”, which is probably what Sony were hoping for. The setup is intended more to publicise FEP than it is the PS3 console.

Last weekend I downloaded the Mirror’s Edge demo for my PS3 and spent a bit of time playing. The game is very cool and fun. You are a free runner that moves atop the buildings in a massive city delivering messages.
To get from one place to the other you have to run, jump, and fight your way there across rooftops. The game has a very cool premise and offers very original gameplay. EA announced this week that it has shipped Mirror’s Edge to retailers worldwide.
The game will be available for the holiday season on the PS3 and Xbox 360. PC gamers will get their version in January. I never understand why they won’t release the PC version at the same time. I guess they are hoping the game will drive console sales. This will be one of the coolest games this holiday season.

If you’ve been anxiously awaiting the arrival of Sonic Unleashed from Sega and you live in Japan, you might just have to wait a little bit longer. The original release date for the Xbox 360 and the PS3 was December 18th, but it has been moved back to sometime in the spring of 2009.

The game is set to be called Sonic World Adventure in Japan, and the delay is said to be due to Sega’s desire to improve the game. This seems like a good enough reason to me, but the quality assurance doesn’t seem to be across the board.
In fact, Japan is the only place that will experience this delay. The U.S. will still see Sonic Unleashed before the year is out, on the Xbox 360 on November 24th and on the PS3 on December 12. This is just plain weird. So the U.S. version of the game will have problems but will be released anyway? Color me confused! However, it seems the Wii version will still be released in both the U.S. and Japan on its original release date. So, that version will have problems everywhere–I guess.

I just started playing Little Big Planet on my PS3, and while the built-in levels are truly a sight to behold, the really wondrous thing about the game is all of the community content that’s starting to surface. I was buzzing about the LBP world last night when I came across some great arcade classics, all brought to life with the amazing level builder in the game.

Here are some videos of my favorite game tributes so far:
You’ve gotta love Little Big Pac-Man (wokka-wokka-wokka):

Even I could build square blocks with the level creation tools, but this Tetris level takes block-building it to the next level.

This Dig-Dug level still needs a little work, but I just couldn’t leave Fygar and Pooka off the list:

This Sonic The Hedgehog Green Hill Zone level really blew my mind. It’s even got the original game music and a Dr. Robotnik boss battle.

Of course, what retro game collection would be complete without Space Invaders?

I’m just waiting for someone to figure out how to do Battlezone, Tempest or Pole Position, and I’ll be truly impressed.
