Starpex Guitar Hero & Rock Band controller now available

Peak Products have finally released their Starpex Guitar Hero and Rock Band controller, made from high-gloss lacquered wood and including both wired and 2.4GHz wireless connectivity.  The first model to hit shelves is the Obsidian, which as the name might suggest is black; that will be followed on October 31st by Dead Rose and Black Sunburst versions.

The Starpex is available now at Circuit City, J&R, MicroCenter and from Peak Products themselves with an MSRP of 179.99.

Sony working on 1:1 motion tracking sword game for PS2 and EyeToy

Sony working on 1:1 motion tracking sword game for PS2 and EyeToyContinuing the attempt to make every future game like a Wii game Sony is working on a sword fighting game that will use 1:1 motion tracking. At least, according to a representative for Sony Computer Entertainment’s London Studios, who seemed pretty bitter about the success of the Wii.

It makes perfect business sense since everyone in the world owns a PS2 and they’ve sold 10.5 million Eyetoys. And since they wish they were the Wii in their hearts. They’re using new color tracking technology to enhance the EyeToy’s motion tracking for two new EyeToy: Play games that should be ready for the holidays this year. One of them is a sword fighting game that comes with a fluorescent toy sword of some sort.

Logitech & Activision to develop premium instruments for Guitar Hero

Logitech & Activision to develop premium instruments for Guitar Hero
Activision and Logitech have announced a partnership where Logitech will create “premium” instrument controllers for Guitar Hero: World Tour. The press release isn’t very clear, but we take that to mean that Logitech will be making nicer, more beautiful and more expensive versions of the stock Guitar Hero guitars for the PS2, PS3, Xbox 360 and the Wii. .

The new gear will be fully compatible with World Tour. This is probably good news for fans of GH since Logitech makes quality stuff. Soon you’ll be rocking a far better ax then you rock now.

Starpex Guitar Controller Rocks Rock Band and Guitar Hero

Starpex Guitar ControllerMusic games are huge right now and the popularity of the games has music labels and bands rushing to get their tracks into games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Another big market for music games is for aftermarket controllers to replace the generally junky ones that ship with titles like Rock Band.

Perhaps the coolest guitar controller ever for the PS2 and PS3 consoles has been announced by Peak Products. The controller is called the Starpex and it offers complete functionality in both Guitar Hero and Rock Band. The Starpex is made from real wood by a leading maker of real guitars and has lots of optimization for serious gaming.

Starpex has a button to activate Overdrive/Star Power as well as a tilt sensor that activates the power like OEM controllers. The whammy bar is optimized for durability and feel. The strum bar provides audible feedback and the wooden neck has ten fret buttons with buttons high on the neck for solos. The controller can connect wirelessly or with a 15-foot USB cable. Pricing for the controller is $179.95 and will be available in August.

Sony PS2 Slim coming to India and Russia

Many Indians reading here will agree that spending around Rs. 25000 (~$550) for a gaming console is foolish. Not that they know the advantages of it, but most of them are reluctant to take up console gaming. And to change this perception, Sony will be launching PS2 which will fill up the Indian and Russian market in the coming months as an entry level console. Pegged at Rs. 6,990 ($162), PS2 Slim will make a perfect gift for Diwali this year. And that’s not all. PlayStation Network will also make an entry in India as soon as the payment gateway issues are sorted out.
