Polk Audio announced their Atrium Sat 10 and Sub 30 outdoor speaker system at CEDIA 2008. Meant for enjoying music in the great outdoors, this satellite/subwoofer system produces great quality sound.

Outdoor theaters are all the rage these days, so this audio system seems to be right on target. And I get what they’re doing with the terra cotta style planter. I know the subwoofer is supposed to blend in with its surroundings and just look like another backyard decoration, but it does have a bit of a plastic look.
These speakers sound great when they’re blasting together, but the price tag is a little steep. Each satellite speaker will cost you $179 and the subwoofer costs $329. Don’t go looking to buy them yet, though. They won’t be released until January.

You want outdoors audio to compliment your peaceful garden but you don’t want something pumping out sound which looks like your dad’s subwoofer. Polk Audio thinks it has an answer to your prayers with its new Atrium outdoor speaker system, consisting of the Atrium Sat 30 satellite speaker and Atrium Sub 10 subwoofer, priced at around $180 and $330, respectively.
The Atrium Sat 30, according to Polk, looks like an outdoor light fixture in shape and style. It can be mounted in a variety of spaces, looking like it was made to fit into your garden. The Sat 10 subwoofer, meanwhile, resembles something like that of a plant stand or pedestal table. Both reportedly “are constructed from sealed, weatherproof designs,” meaning you should be able to enjoy them even in the pouring rain.
Polk says the Sat 10 includes a “10-inch long-throw driver gives authoritative bass response down to 50 Hz, while the acoustically-matched two-way satellites provide smooth, vivid sonics out to an impressive 18 KHz, resulting from Polk Audio’s use of a 3 ½” midrange driver and ¾” dome tweeter.” Does that get you hot? You’ll have until January to ponder that, when these products are due to be released. Doesn’t it seem though they should have been released this summer?

Polk Audio has apparently begun shipments of a Sirius tuner component product it first announced late last year. The Polk Audio SR-H1000 is now available for around $350.
The SR-H1000 is designed to blend into your existing home theater component system while acting as an in home Sirius satellite radio tuner. It is designed to store up to 44 minutes of recorded audio for later playback and is outfitted with a crisp LCD display panel.
Other features of the SR-H1000 include composite video output to show Channel, Artist and Song Title on a TV or video monitor, optical digital output, front panel buttons and a remote control. It comes with RCA audio cables, an optical digital audio cable and antenna.

Flash memory just keeps getting bigger, faster and more irresistible — and that’s just the way we like it. Now, the Open NAND Flash Interface (ONFi) working group is announcing the availability of the 0.9 draft of the ONFi 2.0 specification to member companies, which is a tell-tale sign that the updated spec will be officially loosed in just two months. What’s important here is the newly defined NAND interface, which promises to deliver up to 133MB/second compared to the 50MB/second that the legacy NAND interface is limited to. As if that weren’t enough to get you all jazzed up, ONFi 2.0 will also be backwards compatible, and infrastructure is reportedly in place to “reach 400MB/second in the third-generation.” And just think, soon you’ll be chuckling at yourself for asserting that 133MB/sec was “quick” — onwards and upwards, we say.

It’s been a hot minute since Teac introduced its first tabletop vinyl-to-CD sound machine, but the retrofied device is getting an appreciated upgrade in the GF-650. This unit touts an AM / FM radio, auxiliary input jack, wireless remote, CD player, and of course, a record player. As expected, users simply load in a CD-R / RW, queue up their favorite record, and walk away (or hang around, it’s up to you) as the real-time transfer takes place. As for output, it’s got a meager 3.5-watt x 2 amplifier, and it should be on sale right now in Japan for a staggering ¥83,790 ($740).
