BioShock is no stranger to the gaming world. When it first came out last year for the PC and Xbox 360, gamers loved it. After all, it provided an original storyline and fun gameplay. But now, 2K Games is bringing their hit game to the PS3.

As of today, you can purchase BioShock for the Playstation 3. And while this may seem horribly delayed, you will get unique content in the PS3 version that can’t be found anywhere else.
One of these exclusive features is in the inclusion of challenge rooms. These will be available for download in the near future. Other add ons will be available soon to further round out the gaming experience. Should be interesting to see how the PS3 version plays in comparison to the the Xbox 360 and PC versions.

The PSP 3000 is touted to be the next technology by Sony. The screen is updated and supposedly makes for better color, less glare and less “pixel ghosting.” But it seems the screens are presenting whole new problems not present on the old models.

In fact, users are complaining of artifacts on the new screens. Things like jagged edges and scanlines are now visible. This is definitely a problem and while it may bug some more than others, it still needs to be pointed out. Especially since Sony is dubbing the PSP 3000 as their best yet. And when you’re paying $170-$200, you expect a company to keep their word.
According to Engadget Japan, Sony’s Japanese headquarters (SCEI) have the following to say: “Since this phenomenon is caused by hardware characteristics, there is no plan to fix it with a system software update.” That is not exactly comforting. We’ll have to wait and see what SCEA has to say about it, too.

It seems a good day today for PlayStation users. Sony has announced that the PSP and PS3 consoles will undergo a firmware update pretty soon. They have also given a changelog of what can be expected from these updates. Despite the rumored updates, PSP users will have to suffice with couple of changes with one being a major one, of direct access to PSN store. The addition of PlayStation Network icon on the XMB enables a user to directly download content via Wi-Fi. A sleep timer and a makeover of the XMB interface is also included in this update.
PS3 users on the other hand are in for a treat with a number of changes. Here is the copy pasted text of the updates.
Support for the PS3 Official Bluetooth Headset - we’ve told you about the upcoming Bluetooth Headset and SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation Bundle on the Blog. This latest firmware installment enables High-Quality (HQ) mode, which delivers clear and wide-band online voice chat. On top of that, an added on-screen indicator shows battery status, volume level and use of HQ mode.
PlayStation Trophies interface enhancements - I know that many of you are busy collecting trophies and raising your PlayStation Trophy level. This update makes sharing and comparing your trophies with your friends even easier. On 1st part of the profile page you’ll see a symbol under level that represents level and the actual percentage towards the next level along with the existing level meter. The level symbol carries over to the trophy comparison screen where you will now be able to see your level, your friend’s level and the percentage towards the next level for both users along with all of the game by game comparison information you see today.
Friend status – Offline friends on your Friends list will have information below their avatars that will indicate how long it has been since they were last online.
Video – This update adds the Scene Search feature similar to the feature on the PSP. Activating this feature while viewing a video on the PS3 will break the video up into scenes that you can quickly access by pressing the X button. You can break the videos into one, two or five minute intervals. In addition, you can now choose to have all of the videos under the video section of the XMB play in sequence. Go to Settings then Video Settings to turn this option on.
PlayStation Store – We’ve added a redeem codes option right on the store to make it easier to redeem your PlayStation Network Cards and promotion codes. In addition, PlayStation Network Sign Up and Account Management have been redesigned.
Power Save Settings – You can now set your PS3 and wireless controllers to turn off automatically after set periods of inactivity. Go to Settings then Power Save Settings to turn on these features.
Background Downloading - You now have the option to set the PS3 to turn off automatically after a background download or installation of content has completed. This option is available when you turn off the system from the button under [Users] while content is being downloaded or installed.
In-game Screenshots - this tool will allow everyone to capture, share and in other words, immortalize their favorite gameplay moments. This will be supported on a game by game basis. Please check back to find out which games will support this feature.
In addition to all of the features above there are some additional features and enhancements included in 2.50.

Let me start by saying that I’m really looking forward to playing in the virtual sandbox of the upcoming Little Big Planet for the PS3 when it hits stores later this month. But I could never imagine building something as amazingly intricate as this.

PlayStation 3 fanatic Upsilandre spent countless hours building this incredible calculator using the Little Big Planet Beta demo. Check out this YouTube clip of the calculator in action:
Click here to view the embedded video clip.
The calculator can do basic addition and subtraction, as well as decimal-to-binary conversions. Upsilandre used 500 individual wires to connect 610 magnetic switches, 430 pistons, 70 emitters, and a bunch of other stuff to make the calculator work. Here’s a screen grab of just a small part of the “electronics” which sit behind the display.

Now he just needs to make it multiply, divide and calculate tips. Like I said, I can’t wait to get my hands on this truly unique game to see what sort of amazing creations the community comes up with. For now, I’ll just have to live vicariously through Upsilandre.

Continuing the rollout begun back in August, from October Sony’s pre-paid Playstation Network cards will be available in Walmart, Best Buy and select Sam’s Club outlets across the US. Barnes & Noble will begin selling the cards in November. Available in $20 and $50 denominations, the PSN Cards can be used to buy items such as games, movies, TV shows and other downloads for the PSP and PS3.
The cards were Sony’s pacifier to those gamers either too young, uninterested or unable to get a credit card, the only other way to purchase items from the Playstation Network. Already available in Blockbuster, Pamida, Meijer Superstores and Speedway stores, would-be buyers have often complained that the pre-paid cards are still nonetheless difficult to come by.
It’s also an opportunity for Sony to cash in on the holiday gift market, with the company already suggesting that a PSN Card makes for a great present for the gamers in your life. You can find your nearest PSN Card retailer here.

It’s always hard to predict how a product will do. You can do all the market research, pour over the numbers and still end up wrong. And though the PSP hasn’t exactly been the hottest item on the market in recent months, it is expected to do better in the coming year. At least, if were are to believe SCEA Director of Hardware Marketing, John Koller.

The thinking is that the current slow sales of games is due to poor sales of the hardware nearly two years ago. Makes sense, I guess if you think about it. Games aren’t going to sell well if no one has the device on which to play them!
So, the idea is that sales will improve for the PSP and its games next year, because the device will have entered into its “second wind.” That still remains to be seen, but it does sound possible. And Sony is a trusted brand that many developers still want to do business with. Could a renewed in the PSP happen next year?

No matter what piece of tech you have in your home, you are going to want to customize it. It’s just human nature. That’s why we wear different clothes and buy fancy cars. It’s only natural that we’d want to dress up our tech as well.

If you have a PS3, this Screaming Skull Protective Mask Cover will no doubt be an interesting addition to your gaming system. There are plenty of skins for consoles, and plenty of them are downright ugly. But this one is different, to say the least.
With the protruding skull design, it looks like something is trying to force its way out of your console. Pretty intimidating-looking and just in time for Halloween. The good thing is this is not a skin, so you don’t have to worry about that residue should you decide to replace it but your PS3 will still be protected from scratches. Get your own Screaming Skull for $10.99.
