Asus P565 officially announced

Not long after the fashionable P552w, Asus has come up with yet another good looking handset that uses the company’s Glide User Interface: Asus P565.

Of course, the Glide UI works with Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional on the P565, so the new handset offers a suit of useful applications and features.

The P565 is presented as a “business PDA phone” and, since it is powered by an 800 MHz Marvell Tavor processor, it’s said to be the fastest device in its class.

Asus P565 also comes with a black synthetic leather battery cover, this giving its overall look a unique aspect.

The main specs and capabilities of the new Asus include:

The release date of Asus P565 was not announced. Its price is also unknown, but given the features it has, the P565 can’t be an affordable device.

O2 UK has just announced the release of Xda Zest, the first PDA from the Xda family to be available on both Pay&Go and Pay Monthly plans.

Although O2 says that its new PDA looks stylish, the Zest has a rather modest design, with nothing that can pass as really attractive.

The Xda Zest is built by Asus and comes with Windows Mobile 6.1 on board, thus offering users the well-known advantages of Microsoft Mobile Outlook and Microsoft Mobile Office.

The official specs and features of O2 Xda Zest include:

Starting November 17, the new O2 Xda Zest will be available for purchase in O2’s stores, as well as via the carrier’s online shop. On Pay&Go, the Xda Zest costs £249.99 (about $393), while with certain contract agreements the device will even be offered for free.

Samsung i907 Epix Now at AT&T

I don’t know about you, but I am loving this time of year! Not just because of the holiday season but also because of the cool phones that come out during the holiday season. Yesterday we started seeing them come into the stores, but today we got word that the Samsung i907, aka the Epix, is officially for sale at AT&T.

The Epix is essentially a Blackjack 2 but with a lot of extra features, such as Windows Mobile 6.1 professional — nice to have because it comes with a touchscreen — as well as an optical mouse, 2.0 MP camera, Video Share, WiFi and GPS. I really like the specs on this one. The touchscreen offers haptic feedback.

I had the opportunity to check out the optical mouse yesterday, and while it definitely takes some getting used to, it’s a lot more effective than the spin wheel on the Blackjack 2 by far. And a lot more fun to use. It feels more like a mini trackpad from a laptop.

The Epix is available both online and at stores for $199 with contract and after mail-in rebate.

Samsung Omnia Heading to Verizon Soon?

We have covered a lot of the scoop on the Samsung Omnia over the months. So much so, in fact, we were starting to get bored and tired of it. We felt that today’s news, however, would be worthy of a look.

Howard Forums, ever the source of inside information provided by eager wireless employees, revealed that the hyped-up Omnia is indeed listed on Verizon’s latest rebates. This rebate period is over Nov 14, so the question of the day is: Does this mean it will be launching before November 14 (the end date of the rebate period) or is it on there just in case it gets launched early?

No real way of knowing, of course, until official word comes out. But who wants to just sit around and not speculate about stuff? That part is half the fun.

At the very least, this means we can expect the Omnia to show up sometime this holiday season, barring some bad testing or other unusual circumstance. We’re still awaiting word on AT&T’s side on if the Omnia will become available, but our magic 8-ball is saying this isn’t too likely in the near future. Ooh, the suspense is killing us!

Samsung i770 Spy Pics Emerge

And out of the darkness, in the light of Howard Forums, appears two brand new spy pics of the forthcoming Samsung i770 smartphone. No word on if these are official but the pictures do look genuine.

The i770 is the natural successor of the Samsung i760, which is compared to the i770 in both pictures. We find that the i770 is longer, yet thinner. Is it better to be thinner and longer versus thicker and shorter? Personally when I am faced with a decision between two phones I typically am more interested in the thinner phone — I am not a fan of bulk.

News of the i770 “Saga” came out in the early summer with word that we could expect release of this phone on Verizon in Q3 of this year. Sadly (or happily, depending on how one looks at it) we have recently seen Q3 come to an end. So when can we expect this phone to make an appearance?

Not so sure at this point. The release date hybrid CDMA/GSM smartphone with WinMo 6.1 is still lying in a vault deep in the midst of Verizon’s offices, but we are continually scoping all of the latest breaking news in an effort to find out for you.

Is it worth the wait? Sound off — let us know what you think about this anticipated smartphone.

LG Xenon gets ATT branding, will pop over by Christmas

Target Consumers: PDA users

Should they buy it? Yes

Why?

The technical specs on the LG Xenon sound interesting and the piece is being hosted by AT&T. That’s a winning combo. Also, going by the crisp picture of the phone that Boy Genius Report has, the phone looks like a comfortable slider that has an ample display with a good layout for keys; it has all the makings of a great Smartphone.
