Boasting NVIDIA Hybrid SLI graphics and the latest AMD processors, the Aspire X1200 series is a truly dynamic entertainment center. Stunning graphics, an HDMI port, a multi-in-one card reader, nine USB 2.0 ports and 5.1-channel audio support, are all encased in a stylish, space-saving chassis that occupies less than ten liters of your room. The balance between standard micro tower components, a compact design and advanced technologies keep the total cost of ownership down and make this PC a perfect, long-lasting entertainment companion.

Measuring just 10.6-inches (H) x 4.0-inches (W) x 14.4-inches (L), the compact chassis maximizes desktop real estate. Its high gloss coating and recessed venting sport an elegant look and feel. Translucent plastic knobs on the speakers are attractive and make it simple to adjust volume. Peripherals including the keyboard and mouse showcase subtle color differences that enhance the overall design appeal.

The Aspire X1200-U1520A packs an impressive amount of components into a small case. It measures 10.2 inches tall by 14.4 inches long by 4 inches wide with a glossy black faceplate that opens to reveal the dual-layer DVD burner. The front of the X1200 also features a media card reader, one FireWire 400 port, and five USB 2.0 ports on the bottom of the tower. The rear panel supplies four additional USB 2.0 ports (for an impressive total of nine) along with headphone, microphone, and eSATA ports.

The bevy of included features helps back up that attitude with some substance. On the front you’ll find a DVD±RW drive, four USB ports, one four-pin FireWire port, headphone and microphone jacks, and a multiformat card reader. Around back there are not only the expected Ethernet, keyboard, mouse, and USB jacks (four more, in fact), but also six-channel audio, external Serial ATA (eSATA) for easy connection of external hard drives, and an HDMI port for outputting to an HDTV. Inside, a 320GB hard drive offers ample room for storage. And while the system isn’t silent, it nicely matches the Eee Box and Studio Hybrid in terms of refreshingly low noise levels.

Bluntly put, this is not a gaming rig. Most new games simply won’t play on this system, even at the lowest resolution and graphics settings. Older games like Far Cry, however, are still decently playable at medium settings. If you are a casual gamer, the on-board Nvidia GeForce 8200 graphics will just suffice, but don’t expect to play any newer titles with this system.

This computer’s motherboard is capable of Hybrid Sli. This basically means that even though there is only one PCI-Express slot available on board, you can add an optional low profile Sli-capable video card and run it in SLI mode working with the onboard graphics to provide you with incredible quality you never thought possible in a small computer. Yes, this hot little machine offers you stunning graphics, an HDMI port, a multi-in-one card reader, nine USB 2.0 ports and 7.1-channel audio1 support, are all encased in a stylish, space-saving chassis that occupies less than ten liters of your room.

Gateway M-7818u Laptop Review

image

The MC7803u sports eye catching features such as a bright 16" glass screen, synthetic leather palm rests, and illuminated multimedia controls going down each side. There is also a backlit keyboard, which is as convenient as it is attractive.

In the world of more standard features, the Gateway MC7803u has a multicard reader as well as an ExpressCard slot and an integrated webcam. It packs some decent hardware too, with a 2GHz Core 2 Duo T5800, a 1366×768 display (that’s 16:9), 4GB RAM, a 320GB HDD, a 512MB GPU, 4 USB ports to go along with an HDMI port.

Review By Computershopper

The 6.2-pound M-7818u features an attractive Garnet Red lid sealed with Gateway’s inFuse finish, which protects it from the typical wear and tear of everyday use. The color extends to the wrist rest portion of the keyboard and eventually gives way to a brushed-metal finish that matches the silver keyboard. The keyboard has just the right amount of give without feeling too squishy, and the black touch pad is responsive and smooth.

Review By Laptopmag

The 1280 x 800-pixel resolution on the Gateway M-7818u’s 15.4-inch widescreen is lower than you’ll find on pricier units, but the panel was comfortable to work on and delivered a bright, vibrant image. Colors popped, and motion and color reproduction on our Pirates of the Caribbean DVD were excellent. The panel’s horizontal viewing angle was wide, although looking at the screen from above showed a brightness shift.

The Gateway M-7818u’s slender case houses all the ports and connections you’re likely to need, plus an HDMI output; the latter is an unexpected bonus, but we’re not sure how useful it will be without an accompanying high-definition optical drive. The laptop lacks the mini-FireWire we’ve come to expect on a midsize laptop–a possible deal breaker for camcorder enthusiasts–but it does include a multiformat memory-card reader so you can still grab images from your digital camera.

HP Compaq EliteBook 6930p Notebook Review

The 6930p is a direct replacement for the series 6910p notebook. It retains the same size, weight and dimensions as its predecessor but offers a full range of freshening inside and outside. The 6930p, which is the best-seller among the models in the range EliteBook, is offered in a variety of configurations and my unit is configured with the following specifications:

  • Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 Processor (2.53GHz, 6 MB of L2 cache, 1066MHz FSB)
  • 2 GB 800 MHz DDR2 RAM
  • 160 GB Hard Drive Seagate 7200.2
  • 1440×900 WXGA display matte
  • ATI Mobility Radeon HD3450 256 MB
  • 2 megapixel integrated webcam
Light the Keyboard * (HP Night)

  • Intel 5300 wireless ABGN
  • Bluetooth 2.0
  • Two pointing devices with keyboard
  • 6-cell battery
  • UpgradeBay DVD /-RW with LightScribe
  • Integrated fingerprint reader
  • Firewire 1394a
  • HP 3D Driveguard protection of hard disk
  • VGA connector
  • Three USB ports

    Review By Apcmag

The EliteBook 6930p certainly looks the part with its brushed metal lid, tough recessed hinges and front panel clip which stops the lid from accidentally opening. The lid folds back a full 180 degrees which butts against the base making it virtually impossible to strain the hinges. Although the base of the unit is plastic, it is well built and seems to support HP’s claims that the notebook has been tested in extreme temperature environments and “meets the Military Standard 810F for vibration, dust, humidity, altitude, and high temperature.” This is one of the few notebooks that I believe would actually survive a tumble in the clothes dryer!

Inside, the matte-black, spill-resistant keyboard is offset by a brushed metal deck and upper panel, both of which match the lid. HP’s new DuraKeys feature a fingerprint resistant UV coating that claims to be six times more scratch-resistant than HP’s previous business notebooks. The only design element we found off-putting were the two holes to the left and right of the touchpad, which is where the metal posts for the lid go when the system is closed.

EliteBook 6930p weighs about 2.1 kg, has a diagonal measurement of 14.1 inches and was designed to match the MIL-STD 810F military standards of operation at extreme temperatures, vibration and moisture . The casing is made of materials that provide protection in case of mechanical shock and heat.

The notebook is very well-assembled, like the previous nc6400 and 6910p I’ve used. It feels very sturdy and solid, but HP should definitely work on improving the weight as it is technically not the lightest 14″ around these days. There are no creaks in the casing and it does not flex at all due to the strong aluminum finishing unlike carbon-fiber reinforced plastic used in many rival products. The battery does not wobble and fits snugly. There are no loose fitting parts at all. This is simply one of the most solidly constructed mainstream notebooks in the market.

The 6910p has an awesome keyboard, with no flex, quiet keys and adequate travel. It is one of the most ergonomically-comfortable keyboards. HP maintained the same keyboard design and construction in the 6930p. Although the keys are now less clicky than before, I find them as comfortable to use as its predecessor. Many have criticized HP’s placement of the Home, Page Up, Page Down and End keys, but I do not find this to be a serious issue at all. In fact, I believe the proper placement of FN and CTRL keys are more important and HP has certainly designed this correctly.

It also offers the choice of optional second hard drive support for RAID 0 (striping) or RAID 1 (mirroring), optional 2-megapixel webcam with Business Card Reader software, and a full range of integrated wireless and security solutions.Customers also can choose ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450 Graphics with up to 256 megabytes (MB) of dedicated video memory for more graphics-intensive environments, or the latest Intel Graphics Accelerator for optimal performance.

The $359 E2400HD from BenQ is by no means flashy, but that doesn’t mean it looks bad. In fact, we like its understated design and slim profile. It’s a good option for improved productivity, thanks to its 1,920×1,080 resolution. Gaming and movies also look good—but not great—on this 24-inch monitor. Though 16-to-10 screens have been more common in the past, expect them to become far less so over the coming year, as screen manufacturers are looking to cut costs by making one aspect ratio for all screens meant for multimedia purposes.

Video input options consist of VGA, HDMI, and DVI. However, in another cost cutting measure BenQ only includes a VGA cable and audio cable, as well as the power cable and a driver CD. This in our opinion is a huge error; while VGA does work fine, the vast majority of people have switched over to DVI and BenQ would do a lot better to include a DVI cable rather than the VGA cable — or they could be like many other manufacturers and give users both. If you already have an extra cable around the house, this probably doesn’t matter, but otherwise plan on an extra $10 investment at the time of purchase.

The 15.4-inch display has a maximum resolution of 1,280×800 and uses HP’s shiny BrightView coating to provide vivid colors and a wide viewing angle. Samsung Q310-34P Notebook Review

     image

The Q310 by Samsung optimizes personal mobility and productivity while enabling those looking to make a statement of individuality with its unique Touch of Color design and styling. Weighing in at just over 4 pounds (4.4lbs) and only 1.5” thin at its thickest point, the Q310 significantly reduces your overall travelling weight without sacrificing system performance and overall usability. The high capacity 5200 mAh Lithium Ion battery providing up to 6 hours of continuous run time and the 13.3” wide LCD screen with 250 nits of brightness and an anti-reflection gloss coating provides a clearer, brighter and more comfortable display.

The full size, easy to use keyboard is coated with Silver “Nano” ions to help protect the user from harmful bacteria and annoying PC noises are significantly reduced, enabling it to operate at a very quiet 23dB because of Samsung’s Noise Reduction System (NRS) utilizes new NANOCELL™ absorbs noises from Hard Disk Drive vibration and a new silent shroud system cooling fan significantly reduces the noise while reducing the fan rotation speed. The Touch of Color polished, high glossy design in black with red gradation highlights will take your breath away, satisfying those looking to make a statement in personal style.

The screen looks as bright and colorful as any we’ve seen, though its viewing angle could be better: If you tilt the screen too far back, images wash out in a hurry. As for the keyboard, we found it comfortable overall, though key travel was a bit on the shallow side. We would have liked to see some dedicated media-playback controls, but the Q310 has none. The touch pad and mouse buttons are excellent–perfectly sized and responsive. Plus, there’s a function-key toggle for temporarily disabling the touch pad, which is great for users who frequently swipe it by accident with their thumbs while typing.

Dell XPS 730x Gaming Destop Review

    image

When victory is the only acceptable solution, arm yourself with Intel’s new Core i7 processors, Dell’s advanced liquid cooling and up to 6GB of tri-channel DDR3 memory. With this much raw gaming power, you can be sure your competition will leave the battlefield wondering just what hit them.

Want more? Add designed-for-gaming accessories like the latest NVIDIA  and ATI graphics solutions, Creative X-Fi audio and the infamous Killer NIC high performance network card to the mix and you’ve got Dell’s deadliest gaming platform. All the while Alienware  AlienFX  technology, optional X-panels and anodized finishes guarantee you’ll look good getting the job done. Introducing the Dell XPS 730x. Expand your arsenal.

Right out of the box, your XPS 730x is tuned to take on the toughest games in the market. Want to push the limits even farther? The XPS 730x gives you the BIOS level tools to dial in maximum performance and squeeze every drop of power out of your rig.

The XPS 730x is available with Dell’s patented two-stage H2C cooling system to keep your overclocked CPU and chipset cool and collected. The innovative H2C hybrid solution combines a liquid radiator, a thermoelectric cooling module and control circuitry, which optimizes CPU cooling with minimal power consumption.

The XPS 730x puts more control in your hands with the new XPS Thermal Monitor utility. Factory installed on all XPS 730x systems, the XPS Thermal Monitor utility gives you the ability to edit and profile the chassis fan settings so you can fine tune your thermal performance.

The XPS’ lighting system also recives an update, this time with some borrowed technology from Alienware. The XPS 730x supports the AlienFX utility which lets you control and finely tune the XPS’ multi-zone, multi-color LED lighting system or disable it altogether for that ’stealth’ look. Each zone can be assigned a specific color and event-driven lighting is also supported allowing you to set zone lighting to change automatically when programs are launched or mail is received.

With price-performance differentials this narrow, the XPS 730x needs to offer the gamer something more for his or her dollar. That comes in the form of both the system’s sleek case design, a sturdy angled-and-curvy silver monolith (red and blue are also options), and special functionality aimed squarely at enthusiasts. XPS Thermal Monitor is software that lets you track, change, and even create specific usage profiles for the speeds of your various fans, so you can always maintain your preferred balance between cooling and noise. AlienFX lighting allows you fine-tuned control over your PC’s appearance: You can set the LEDs that illuminate any of the PC’s five lighting "zones" (the drive bays, the right intake fan, the left intake fan, the system’s interior, and the rear panel) to any of 16 colors, in whatever combination most strikes your fancy.

Another interesting feature (which may be nothing new to enthusiast builders) is the addition of what Dell refers to as ’Theater Lighting’ that consists of four white LEDs placed strategically inside the case. These LEDs automatically turn on when the side panel has been removed so that you can see what is going on inside the system when performing maintenance. These lights are powered by battery and not the system’s main Power Supply Unit (PSU).
