Nowadays you probably don’t have much to do with your extra dollars, so here’s a good option. Make origami spaceships, like those from Star Trek and Star Wars, made entirely from folded dollar bills. The Millenium Falcon is a bit more expensive as it takes three dollar bills to get all that detail. It’s the work of Hawaii resident Won Park, whose next project is apparently Firefly’s Serenity. Awesome stuff.

Papercraft is all the rage and we’ve seen some pretty cool stuff built into paper versions. This may be one of the coolest things yet. Imagine if you will an army of paper Stormtroopers. That’s scary. Now imagine an army of just their heads. That’s a dark-side nightmare. And it will surely happen when people realize that they can make their own.
You have to download .PDO papercraft files and a papercraft program called Pepakura Designer in to view them. Looks like they are in iPod Nano colors. You can download them here. Just make a bunch in different colors and decorate your room or something.

When I think of Origami, I usually think of little paper swans, or maybe the unicorn that Edward James Olmos made in Blade Runner. But who says that video games can’t get in on the paper foldin’ action?

Individually cut and folded by Flickr contributor Lidia F. (aka “This Fffire“), these tiny Power Stars look just like their doppelgangers from the Super Mario game series (other than the defective ones with faces in the upper right corner). Lidia says she was inspired by Super Mario 64, so clearly she hasn’t upgraded her console in a while!

Each little Power Star is made from a single strip of paper, then hand-painted with yellow acrylics and embellished with some Sharpie eyeballs. Now, I can’t really figure out how in the heck she managed to make these, but if you’re out there reading this post, feel free to share some tips so we can all make hundreds of these tiny stars.

It’s been a while since we last heard about a dolphin getting fitted with an artificial tail, but it looks like Fuji finally has some new bionic company, with Winter the dolphin now starting to get used to a prosthetic tail of its own. Unlike Fuji, Winter lost her both her tail flukes and her peduncle, which posed additional problems for the team of researchers that developed the tail, ultimately requiring them to “MacGyver” one as they went along (a term the researchers themselves used to describe it). While it’s apparently not perfected just yet, Winter has started to learn to swim with a prosthetic sleeve, which will eventually be outfitted with artificial tail flukes that could allow it to keep pace with other dolphins. In addition to helping Winter, the researchers behind the tail say that the lessons learned from it could also help human amputees, with the gel sleeve used to hold the tail into place apparently already adapted for use with a human prosthesis.
