If you’ve got nothing planned for Saturday night and you’re a fan of Guitar Hero, then head on over to GameStop that night to celebrate the unveiling of Guitar Hero World Tour. GameStop will be holding festivities across 1800 of its stores around the nation where folks can test their skills in Guitar Hero matches, air guitar challenges, rock star impersonations, and much much more. GameStop will also host “three marquee events” in retail locations in New York City(33rd and Broadway), Dallas (Park and Preston), and Los Angeles (Universal CityWalk). Consumers will be able to play in a Guitar Hero shred-off as well as mingle with celebrity VIP guests. You’ll also be able to experience Guitar Hero World Tour before it officially goes on sale at midnight. Not sure if I’ll be able to make the event on Saturday here in LA but if I do, I’ll make sure to take a lot of pics.

Look out Rock Band - you’ve got some competition coming at you this fall in the form of the newly announced Activision Guitar Hero World Tour. The new game will marry Guitar Hero’s guitar gameplay with a cooperative band experience which includes a genuine electronic drum kit, a microphone, a new Music Studio music creator system that allows players to compose, record, edit, and share music, and new online capabilities including Band Career and 8 player “Battle of the Bands” contests. The game will feature the largest on-disc set list for any game to date including master recordings from classic to modern rock bands. You’ll also be able to download localized music on all of the next generation consoles.
Here are some of the more interesting details about the new game:
- The electronic drum kit will feature three drum pads, two raised cymbals, and a bass kick pedal
- The drum controller combines larger and quieter velocity sensitive drum heads with soft rubber construction to deliver authentic bounce back
- Instruments will be wireless
- Music Studio gives players a full compliment of tools to create digital music from scratch using all of the instruments in the game. You can then share your content with friends online through GHTunes
- The game introduces Battle of the Bands concept which allows eight players to join online and challenge each other band-to-band. There’s also a Band mode which allows up to four players to jam together online or offline
Guitar Hero World Tour will be available for the Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, and the Nintendo Wii.
One thought.. I’m going to run out of room storing all of this equipment if I have both Rock Band and Guitar Hero World Tour! Sheesh!

If Belkin’s new Razer-powered
SpeedPad keyboard is a bit too unfamiliar for you, then perhaps Razer’s own new Lycosa keyboard will be more to your liking. As you can see, it boasts a full complement of keys to handle those odd non-gaming tasks, although its not without its share of gaming-minded amenities as well. Those include backlighting on the all-important
WASD key cluster, a non-slip rubber finish on all the keys, and support for up to 10 different software profiles which you can switch between on the fly. Those looking to stick with Razer for all their gear will also soon be able to get their hands on the company’s just-announced Piranha headset, which boasts a noise-filtering microphone, an in-line remote with volume and microphone-muting controls and, of course, that trademark blue glow. Look for it to be available sometime this month for $80, with the keyboard set to follow in November for the same price.
