GPS Golf Guru goes color

GPS GolfGuru ColorI have never understood the appeal of golfing myself and have never been to a real golf course. I take my kids to play put-put on occasion and typically, my 7-year-old beats me. As close as I care to get to a real game of golf is on the Wii.

For those of you who like real golfing, a new GPS tool is now better equipped to improve your game. The gadget is called the GPS Golf Guru Color Guru and offers a color GPS screen that is 320 x 240 pixels. The device stores information on 300 courses and up to 30 features per hole.

The map software is free to update and over 10,000 course maps are available online. A 16-channel GPS tuner makes it easy to get highly accurate distances from the pin. Battery power comes from an internal rechargeable that is good for up to 14 hours of use at a time. Pricing for the Color Guru is $369.95 for a limited time.

myminigolf miniature golf course travels wherever you go

I don’t know if I should really be sharing this dorky tidbit, but back when I was just a pup, I was a serious bad-ass on the miniature golf course. I actually won a couple of shiny plastic trophies, and even an official gold-plated Jack Nicklaus putter from the neighborhood Putt-Putt.

My Mini Golf Portable Miniature Golf

Over the years, my time on the course diminished, and eventually I ended up as a completely sub-par (er actually, way above par) golfer as an adult. So when I saw this kit that lets you set up a mini golf course just about anywhere, I got the wild idea that maybe I could get my putting game back in check.

My Mini Golf Portable Miniature Golf

Just mow your lawn, throw down the obstacles on the ground, and get to putting. Since each piece is completely standalone, you can constantly create new challenges for yourself. And of course, there’s nothing stopping you from setting up a virtual putting green in the middle of your office or living room.

My Mini Golf Portable Miniature Golf

Designed by George Pal and Hannes Weber of defacto.GmbH, the MyMiniGolf portable mini golf course comes with a variety of ramps, loops, jumps and cups. The kit includes 13 plastic obstacles in an oversize nylon carrying bag, along with a putter, a couple of balls and a score pad.

Ready to bring the course to you? Head on over to Generate, plunk down your $329, and get working on that hole-in-one.

Stewart F1 Lithium: A sportscar for golf clubs

Stewart F1 Lithium: A sportscar for golf clubs
Certain items have “mid-life crisis” and “cranky old fart with money” written all over them. This is one such item. The F1 Lithium is the latest over the top golf accessory for those who want to prowl the golf course in style. It collapses to a nice handy size, which is why this foldable caddy is named F1. F1 stands for ‘the folding one’.

It uses a custom made Li-Ion battery that’s capable of giving you enough energy for more than 36 holes of golf. An LCD screen at the rear will tell you how much battery life remains. It will cost you $5,000. But seriously, if you’re going to buy this, you can certainly upgrade the whole plaid look you have going on. Buy a more practical golf accessory like this.

crabfu golf robot hits the links

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a very good golfer. If you take par, then multiply it by a factor of 1.5x, that’s about what I usually hit. So I guess I was pretty pleased to see that this little robotic golfer doesn’t play any better than I do.

CrabFu Motionworks Putter Bot Golf Robot

CrabFu’s Putter Bot is a remote-controlled robot that’s designed to do just one thing - putt the ball.

CrabFu Motionworks Putter Bot Golf Robot

Nope, it can’t hit a 200 yard tee shot, nor can it get out of a sand trap, but it should be able to gently tap the ball into the hole from a few club-lengths away.

Of course, that assumes that the person controlling the Putter Bot can actually aim. I counted 4 strokes on that last putt. Maybe with a little more practice, it could hit a proper two-putt.

Inflatable Golf Simulator for your yard

Inflatable Golf Simulator for your yard
If you like the Full Swing Golf simulator, but don’t want to tear up your home, this is the way to go. All you need is a yard large enough to park this eyesore in. Like other simulators, it uses a projection screen along with a motion sensors that will detect the motion and speed of the ball. That info is then put on screen and you can watch the result on a 3D course.

Apparently, it only works with woods and irons, so you’ll still suck at putting. They say that the inflatable structure is weatherproof so you could even play in nasty weather. Your neighbors will probably wonder why you vanish inside an inflatable house every afternoon. Nosy bastards.

Tee off with the Golf Ball Mouse

Tee off with the Golf Ball Mouse
This is probably not the best mouse to use gaming-wise. But Golf fans will have fun hitting a tiny ball in the hole either with the mouse that resembles a squished golfball or included putter. It even comes with the mousepad, looking like the green, and a flag.

Great for getting some game play in on those rainy days where you would otherwise get hit by lightning. The mouse, not content with being an ordinary flattened ball, will also light up in several colors. No word on price, but I’m guessing it won’t cost very much, since it won’t actually improve your skill.

“Follow Me” Golf caddy follows old rich dudes

“Follow Me” Golf caddy follows old rich dudes
The “follow-me golf caddy” also known as The Shadow Caddy, has a thing for old rich dudes on the Golf course. It follows them around without the use of any form of remote control, so they don’t have to drag their clubs around when not in a golf cart.

It’s cheaper than hiring a human caddy and leaves them free to concentrate on the ball. The device works by using a transmitter worn on the body of the user and uses multiple on-board CPUs and a collision detection system to navigate the fairways. It won’t improve the Golf game of old rich dudes, just like it won’t improve their fashion sense, but it will make them feel important.
