ghostbuster wii-mote mod: ready for action!

With this fancy wii-mote, the question that is on the tip of my tongue is simply: who are you going to call? Answer: Ghostbusters!

This wii-mote is the work of Jack, and he really loves Ghostbusters. After having playing with his Ghostbusters video game, he set himself the task of transforming his wii-mote into a particle thrower.

The particle thrower connects to a matching proton pack! Now that’s pretty cool! For a minute there, I wasn’t sure if it was connected to something. Obviously it is!

Here’s how Jack describes his mod:

“The cyclotron features four blue LEDs allowing you to know which player is selected or active and the Blue Power Cell actually shows you how much power the pack has. The Thrower has been carefully designed in regards to ergonomics and function. The front of the wand has an area in which you can place the Wii-mote and the back handle is where the Nunchuck is placed. Since the Wii-mote has in internal speaker in it’s ABS housing, when playing the game the pack makes all the iconic Ghostbusters SFX.”

the real ghostbusters… halloween costume

I can’t say whether or not this Proton Pack will actually trap ghosts, but from this brief glimpse, there is one thing I can say for certain: this badass project is sure to score the top prize at Halloween costume contests, and isn’t that worth more than a ghost in a box?

The entire costume–you didn’t think it was just the Proton Pack, did you?–took Instructables ghostbustin’ guru depotdevoid two years to perfect. Not two entire years, mind you, but two years of costume-compiling. I can’t say I blame him; if I made a costume this awesome, I’d wear it every year.

A khaki flight suit, lasers (!), props, and an Arduino are the key elements required to build your own Ghostbusters costume, though I also recommend such luxuries as time and enthusiasm. However, from the instructions, it seems like just about any big Ghostbusters fan could put this together, if they were dedicated enough… thanks to the handy guide, anyway.

bustin’ ghosts in the uncanny valley [ghostbusters]

I’m torn. The opening cinematic from the upcoming PS3/360/PC version of the Ghostbusters game. The Ghostbusters themselves look pretty accurate. Waves of paranormal something exploding through the city? I’m down. But then I watch the people move, and a little piece of my childhood breaks off and floats away.

I think the unnatural movements in the footage are actually more pronounced because the characters look so good! Oh well–so long as the story has that classic Ghostbusters humor, the game will probably be worth looking into. We’ve got (almost) all the original talent; all that remains is to see if we’ve got all the original laughs.

Here’s the opening:

The game is slated for release this June, the same week the original films are due to be released on Blu-Ray.

Atari will publish Ghostbusters: The Video Game

Ghostbusters GameI really liked Ghostbusters when I was a kid and Atari has some really good news. As Ray Parker would say, “Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!” the Ghostbusters game has found a publisher. Whether or not the game would make it was debatable after it was dropped from the lineup of the original game publisher.

Atari has announced that it will be bringing Ghostbusters: The Video Game to market in 2009 for six game systems. The game should be cool for those who grew up watching the movies. The original cast is back for the game lending likenesses and voices to the project.

The storyline is written by the writers of the original movie, Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd. Cast members from the films participating in the game include Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson. The game will be available on the PS3, PS2, Xbox, Windows, Wii and Nintendo DS.

great geeky t-shirts from glennz tees

Looking for some new fashions to upgrade your geekster wardrobe? Look no further than these clever t-shirt designs from New Zealand graphic artist Glenn Jones.

Ever wonder how Darth Vader keeps his helmet so shiny and squeaky clean? Now you have your answer:

Star Wars not your thing? That’s okay, Glenn doesn’t discriminate, as he proves with this Star Trek starship-in-a-bottle design:

When there’s something strange in your living room, who ya gonna call? GhostDustBusters! (Ooh, that sucked.)

Jenga anyone?

Kids too young to remember Optimus Prime? That’s okay, now that Thomas the Transformer is here:

And what geeky t-shirt collection would be complete without some Space Invaders?

You can check out the entire collection of geeky ironic shirts over at the Glennz Tees online shop.

USB Flash Drive with Ghostbusters movie

USB Flash Drive with Ghostbusters movieI feel like I’ve just been slimed with this item. Call me a dork, but the Ghostbusters movie is a classic. And I can’t think of anything better then getting the movie pre-loaded on a flash drive from PNY.

The drive offers 2GB of storage capacity. The only question I have is in regards to the format of the movie file. The 2GB drive is able to store 12 hours of video, 33 hours of music, or 1,080 pictures. No pricing info yet. Apparently this is the first time a full-length movie has been released via a USB flash drive. Why Ghostbusters? Why not!
