Asus EeeTop ET2010PNT doc claims ION2 is G310 GPU

asus-ion2

ION2 did not come up at the CES but now we’ve got some meaty details regarding the next-gen ION by way of Asus’ EeeTop PC’s brochure leak. Blogeee discovered the ION2 mention in a listing of Asus’ EeeTop ET2010PNT and according to the doc, ION2 is the same as G310 GPU, which supposedly is a rebranded G210.

Nvidia had confirmed that the next-gen ION will be compatible with Intel’s PineTrail platform and since PineTrail CPUs are embedded with graphics and a memory controller, Nvidia had the only one option – to go discrete, which is what they’ve done.

It will be interesting to see how much increase the new platform will give but if previous hearsays are to be believed, it is expected to be twice as powerful and energy efficient than the original ION.

As for the Taiwanese all-in-one, there are no pointers whatsoever to suggest its probable launch but H1 2010 seems more logical, provided Nvidia officially outs ION2 by then.

Nvidia Tegra to power Asus Eee Pad?

Asus logo

Except its name, Asus Eee Pad was completely shrouded in mystery when we heard of it couple of weeks back. Now, Netbooknews has heard from its sources that Nvidia Tegra will power the Taiwanese’ tablet offering. It’s not clear which Tegra platform will find the place but since it is rumored to go on sale in March 2010, the site reckons Tegra 2 has a better chance. Amongst other confirmed things, multi-touch will be present while WinCE won’t be the likely OS.

Asus EeeBot Robot will run on Android

eee-bot

Who knew Google’s Android Bot will really come to life? The Taiwanese Government has given the mantle to Asus to produce an educational robot for kids. And since it is meant for e-learning purposes, Asus is trying to keep its cost down by running it on Android OS.

Known as the EeeBot project, Asus will work on its hardware design and try to subsidize the overall cost by building content and services on Google’s free OS. The project includes working on different technologies like human robot interaction, voice, visual and navigation.

Asus plans to take about two years to put the design into trial production after the plan has been finalized.

Asus Eee Reader will be the cheapest e-book reader and feature a dual screen

Asus Dual screen

We heard few murmurs about Asus’ Eee Reader last month and now the things look more concrete. Times UK has got some meaty details of Asus’ iteration of the e-book reader that clearly matches the description of the dual screen concept shown at CeBIT this year. Asus’ Eee Reader will feature dual color screens with hinges that tries to mock a real book. However, unlike other e-book readers who can only do one thing, Eee Reader will be multi-faceted – like making one screen work as a virtual keypad while other can be used as a normal display, view webpages and will have speakers, webcam and mic to carry video conferencing.

Just like its low-cost notebooks, Asus is also aiming to provide the advantages of e-book reading on the cheap. Asus is trying to squeeze the price under £100 ($164) mark.

To cater to the high-end e-book market, Asus will also bring a premium Eee Reader equipped with 3G and other bells and whistles.

Expect the Eee Reader to be official by the end of the year.

Asus contemplating an e-book reader

Eee logo

Asus’ world domination with the Eee brand had slowed down recently but it looks like they’ll be back with a bang, starting with an e-book reader. Asus President, Jerry Shen confirmed to Digitimes that an e-book reader under its Eee brand can come by the end of 2009. Though other details weren’t divulged, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Kindle-like features in the Eee reader.
