Video: HTC Dream (G1) gets an Android 2.0 port

htc-dream-eclair

So what do you do when you know the first ever Android device’s chances to get an official Android 2.0 are slim (actually, non-existent). But of course, port it yourself. Modder Akira Harada took the task in his own hands to port the Android 2.0 Eclair SDK on his rooted G1. The build as you’ll see is not the one you’d want to work on but it’s just a start. Once the source code is out, a fully functional ROM is promised to make its way out.

Apple commanded, Google obeyed

jobsschmidt

Google and HTC gathered a lot of flak because of their decision to leave out multi-touch functionality in G1 (HTC Dream) where proof-of-concepts have shown G1 to handle multi-touch gestures at ease. However, according to a member from the Android team, it was a conscious decision by Google. He says that Apple asked (ordered?!) Google not to implement multi-touch and Google happily obliged them.

Well, this is not as straight as it seems because there seems to be a lot of hidden motives. Both the companies benefit from each other and adding the most craved feature could easily spoil their relationship as well as decrease revenues.

dream with the petals in psn’s flower in february

Do flowers dream of petals dancing on the wind? According to ThatGameCompany (makers of flOw,  predecessor), they just might, especially if they’re stuck on the dull, lifeless windowsill of an apartment. And here you thought it was just guilt-inducing to bring a pet into your apartment; now the flora is fighting back, too.

flower psn thatgamecompany

flower (lower case “f” preferred) is game-as-art-project (or perhaps vice versa) in which players guide petals through abstract landscapes. Each “level” is a new dream, with its own rules and objectives, and there’s no handy, helpful guide to explain what those are. In dreams, we drift along, struggling to gain a grip; in flower, we do the same. If that doesn’t sound like much of a game to you, that’s okay. As flower is a PlayStation Network release, the downloadable game will be less than $20, and maybe even less than $10 (though that’s unlikely).

flower has been scheduled for a release in the United States on February 12, though pricing has not yet been determined, and we can expect one more title, at least, from ThatGameCompany on the PlayStation Network.
