Christian Dior’s Dior Mini walks the FCC runway

If you think you could use a lesson in spending your money wisely, have a look at the recently FCC-approved Dior Mini clamshell phone from Christian Dior. It has all the inner workings of a mid-to-low-end cellphone, doesn’t have an elegant-enough design, and yet the manufacturer looks ready to charge at least a couple thousand dollars for it.

To retail for $5,000, you’d think they’d go through the trouble of making this cellphone water-proof, shock-proof, or ridicule-proof, at least. But no, adding even more insult to any potential buyer’s injury, the Dior Mini doesn’t look like the special handset it’s marketed to be.

And as everyone is complaining about how the iPhone is ridiculously high-priced at $500, I think it’s safe to say that no one has heard of this phone yet.

In any case, this handset will soon be on its way to willing victims, but if I want any phone to be on the “Will It Blend?” show more than anything, it would definitely be this. Agree?

Arpita:

Christian Dior the most coveted Parisian haute couture seems to be no longer content with the world of designerwears and accessories and have expanded its area of work by entering the tech world. The elegant Dior touch is now coming on the cell phone with the arrival of “My Dior” line of cell phones. Created by ModelLabs the two models of the My Dior clamshell will flaunt 2.6-inch touchscreen with 2-megapixel camera. In true Christian Dior style, these clamshells will come in most luxurious draping with the $26,000 higher-end model wrapped in crocodile skin case and studded with dazzling 640 Swarovski crystals of 3251 carats. However, for its not so much high-end customers it has the $5,000 model on offer. With Christian Dior mobile phone making its appearance, Samsung’s Giorgio Armani, LG’s Prada KE850 and Motorola’s Dolce & Gabbana will have to gear up for some tough competition.

Cristian Dior is coming. For $3500-5000 and more a pop

Remember that Christian Dior Phone that was supposed to be announced last week, but wasn’t? Does it really exist?

Yes, it does. CD mobile launch was a bit delayed, but it should be officially announced soon.

The phone will be made by French designer phone specialist Modelabs, that brought us Hummer HT1 mobile phone.

It will be sold for $3500-$5000, or even more. Depending, probably, whether you want some real diamonds on your CD phone cover or will be satisfied with just Swarovski crystals instead :)

WSJ (subscription required) reports, that the phone will work worldwide, except Japan and Korea. That probably means that it’s GSM handset, and 3G capability is also likely. It will come equipped with a touchscreen, camera, specialist ringtones and, probably, custom graphics, wallpapers, etc;

And that remote you have seen in the first spy shot? It’s also there, and they call it “My Dior” mini phone. Although the claim is for it to be a separate phone, meant for “women who don’t want to rummage through their bags to find their phones”, my guess is that it’s actually not a separate phone, but a Bluetooth accessory.

“My Dior” clips to the outside of a bag for easier access, wirelessly couples to the main CD handset and can be used for making and accepting calls.

Cristian Dior phone is mainly targeted to the nouveau riches from Russia and China, and CD expects to sell 10 000 of them a year at first, with annual sales reaching $200 million eventually.

Verizon Wireless allows customers to change plans without extending contract

Filed under:

Though you may be used to hearing Alltel boast of its consumer-friendly policy that enables users to change their plan at anytime without requiring a contract extension, now would be a good time to gear up for lots of similar chatter from Verizon. Reportedly, Verizon Wireless will soon allow its users to change up their plans mid-contract without asking them to sign on for any additional time, which should thoroughly excite those customers who’ve been regretting their plan decision since day two. So go on, Verizon customers, start scoping out which plan best fits your current lifestyle, because the new rule goes into effect on October 7th.
