QiGi i6 officially supports both Android and Windows Mobile 6.1

When it comes to mobile phones, China is perhaps best known for its copycat handsets. You know them – looking like the originals but offering fewer features and a built quality that makes them un-recommendable.

However, QiGi i6, one of the latest smartphones to come from China, is nothing like that. It’s a quite nicely-designed device.

Yet the handset is not interesting due to its look, but due to its ability to run either Windows Mobile 6.1 or Google’s Android OS.

QiGi, the company that manufactured the i6, offers it in two flavors: an Android and a WM one. Unfortunately, there is no version that allows you to boot from both of the operating systems.

Apart from getting along well with Android and Windows Mobile, QiGi i6 also features:

As you can see, there is no 3G connectivity, but since the smartphone is manufactured for China, this isn’t such a big problem.

Now we can only hope that a similar handset (to support WM and Android) will reach Europe and the Americas too – regardless of which company manufactures it.

Motorola Aura clone shows up in China

Motorola Aura clone shows up in ChinaIt’s amazing how fast Chinese cloners move. They’ve done it again. Poor Motorola. They tried so hard to keep their beautiful new phone off of ebay. Here it is in all of it’s clone-y-ness.

It’s called the Wingtech D20, and basically what they have done is take all the beauty of the Aura and flush it down the toilet through the use of cheap plastics and bad colors. And there ya have it. Instant crap-gadget for people on a budget. Everyone will know you’re on a budget when they see this thing. Some features include: Swiveling, switchblade-like design exactly like the Motorola Aura, Support for dual-band GSM networks, GPRS Class 10, 1.5-inch TFT 128 x 128 pixel LCD, Multi-language support, MP3 and MP4 player, USB connectivity, and Up to 4 hours of talk time and 120 hours on standby.

Motorola Aura clone becomes Wingtech D20 in China

Can’t afford the $2000 Motorola Aura? Well, our Chinese brothers have tried to bring the ‘luxury’ of the Aura into Wingtech D20 and that too at almost 1/10th of the original’s price. You won’t get 700 working components in this phone nor sapphire crystals but the high class materials will be substituted with plastic and wonderful artwork besides the screen.

The specs include support for dual-band GSM networks, GPRS class 10, music player, 1.5-inch screen with 128×128 pixel resolution, USB port and a talk time of 4 hours. One area where the clone outsmarts the original is in the camera department. Wingtech D20 sports 3-megapixel as compared to 2-megapixel of Aura.

psp clone plays retro nes games

Sure, this portable gaming system might LOOK just a little bit like the Sony PSP, but don’t expect it to play any games made in the last 15 years.

2PG TC8281 PSP Clone 8-bit

Another in a long line of cheap Chinese knock-off systems, the 2PG TC8281 handheld plays a mish-mash of questionable 8-bit and 16-bit retro games that come only on special multi-game cartridges.

The 2PG console comes with five built-in games, as well as an additional “112 in 1″ game cartridge, for a total of 117 games for under $50. Hundreds of additional games can be played if you know where to look for the proper cartridges. The system also has an AV out and comes with a cheezy-looking Playstation clone controller so you can play games on your TV.

2PG TC8281 PSP Clone 8-bit

If you’re willing to take a gamble on one of these somewhat suspect systems, you can get your hands on one over at DealExtreme for $48.80 USD.

homeloo gear clock spills its mechanical guts

This over-the-top wall clock has way more gears than it really needs - but it’ll definitely draw stares from anyone who tries to tell time with it.

Homeloo’s Jumbo Gear Clock has not 2, 3 or even 10 gears. Nope, it’s got an more than 50 gears - each and every one of them exposed on the surface of the clock for everyone to see. Check out the video below to see all the gears in action:

Click to view the embedded video clip.

The clock measures in at 16″ in diameter, and it takes 4 D-cell batteries to keep the entire mechanism turning.

The Jumbo Gear Clock is available from Homeloo for $78 USD.

BlackBerry Bold goes to Taiwan with a special QWERTY keyboard for Chinese input

RIM might have went official with the sleek BlackBerry Storm, but that doesn’t mean its other smartphones have to be neglected. Especially if we talk about BlackBery Bold, which is by no means a device to overlook.

The Bold was announced today for a release via Taiwan Mobile, starting early November. The keyboard of this Bold for Taiwan is a “hybrid QWERTY-BoPoMoFo” one, enhanced for Chinese input. Meaning that, besides the ordinary characters and the alphanumeric symbols, it also features Chinese characters, which have an orange color and are situated in the down-right side of the keys.

Taiwan Mobile’s BlackBerry Bold further supports Simplified Chinese with Pinyin, CangJie and WuBiHua, as well as Traditional Chinese with Jyutping and CangJie. All these features are meant to allow Taiwanese users to browse Chinese websites and write/read Chinese e-mails.

The retail price of BlackBerry Bold from Taiwan Mobile is of 21,500 NT$ ($662). Together with a BlackBerry Internet Service data plan, users can get the smartphone for as low as 11,500 NT$, while corporate users can have it even for less: 6,500 NT$, if they subscribe to an unlimited BlackBerry Enterprise Server plan.

I wonder, if now a Chinese-language-friendly BlackBerry Bold exists, does it mean RIM will try to launch the smartphone in mainland China too? This is yet to be seen.

To preorder a BlackBerry Bold from Taiwan Mobile, just hit the carrier’s web page dedicated to the new smartphone.

Extra-cheap Motorola phone in the making, in and for China

Motorola has built cheap phones for a long time now, whether they are from the W family or just that 9-mm thick MotoFone. And, let’s admit it, a low-cost handset has more chances to be sold in tens of thousands of units than an expensive one.

So, it seems that Motorola wants to push the boundaries of cheapness and come up with an extra-low-cost phone in 2009. Unnamed and unpictured yet, this phone will not be built by Moto itself, but by Foxlink, a Chinese manufacturer of electronic products.

A rather odd aspect about the whole deal is that the device was, in fact, designed for Huawei, and Motorola will be getting it with minor changes.

(this is the MotoFone, not the device to come in 2009)

It’s said that the cheap Motorola feat. Foxlink handset is targeted for the fast-growing mobile market of China, but I think it might also reach India or other countries where affordable devices are still at high value.

Now, if only we could get an image with the phone, or at least its price… But we’ll probably have more details soon, so stay close if you’re interested.

worst mp3 player, ever. (revisited)

Think your iPod Touch is the coolest media player on the block? Not so fast, I say. While I thought for a while that I had discovered the worst MP3 player ever, I’m not so sure that my original selection still holds its crown. This new “Cute Pink Mouse” MP3 player could very well give the old champ a serious run for its money.

Worst MP3 Player Ever

You be the judge, but I can’t imagine walking around listening to anything worse than a lumpy, Pepto Bismol pink cartoon mouse-shaped media player, let alone one that can only hold 1GB of songs, and has a headphone jack sticking into the top of its head, like some sort of lobotomy instrument.

Worst MP3 Player Ever

And what kind of music would you store on this anyhow? I can only imagine listening to some horrible pap like the Jonas Brothers or Miley Cyrus on this, and would never defile the likes of Radiohead or The White Stripes with such an abysmal looking creation.

I guess if there’s one positive thing to say about this vehemently uglified thing is that it’s dirt cheap. You can get one for the low, low price of $13.13 (USD). So what are you waiting for? Throw that iPod Touch in the trash, and head on over to Chinavasion to order your new MP3 player.
