Chileans first in the world to officially get BlackBerry Bold 9000

While you and I are busy drooling over the pictures of the yummy BlackBerry Bold 9000 on the net, smartphone lovers over in the Republic of Chile are queuing up to lay their paws on the RIM beauty. Of course that makes me and my friends in the rest of the world feel very discriminated against but since the proverb says all good things come to those who wait, we’re all very hard at work trying to look up contacts in the South American nation who can help us smuggle a few handsets across to our nick of the woods. The fact that the phone will be available only with a contract from Chilean carrier Movistar and that too for 299,990 Chilean pesos (roughly $587), might be a deterrent but I’m sure its not something a few hacking brains cant work their way around!

BlackBerry Bold now available from Movistar Chile

Movistar Chile has revealed that it can now put the BlackBerry Bold into the hands of very eager customers, for a price that will almost surely send chills down your business-oriented spine.

In the BlackBerry Bold’s page from Movistar Chile’s web site, the shiny new BlackBerry is seen with a red banner drawn across its handsome face, and on it is written “FIRST ONES IN THE WORLD.” Proud and true.

But now your excitement will wane and turn into puzzlement as the local list price is 299,990 Chilean Pesos, which translates to about $588 USD. Well, to own this business phone, at least you don’t have to sell the business itself. And that’s a good thing.

Chile is the first country to get Blackberry Bold

This is not the thing we had expected but it seems Chile Blackberry users will be first ones to get their hands on much hyped Bold 9000. MoviStar, the Chilean service provider obviously doesn’t want to waste this marketing opportunity and are using ‘the first’ tag to the fullest.

For the users, this won’t come cheap as MoviStar will be charging $588 a piece for a two year contract.

space intruderz lamps sure look like invaders to me

In a not-too-obvious attempt to avoid a cease and desist letter from Taito’s copyright attorneys, these fun video game inspired lamps go by the nom de plume “Space Intruderz”, rather than the “Invaders” moniker more befitting these pixelated luminaires.

But what’s in a name, really? Even if you are a stickler for factory-authorized products, these lamps are just too cool to pass up if you’ve got a serious retro-gaming obsession like me.

Space Intruderz are the brainchild of Yensen Páez and Chilean design shop Unison Idea Studio. And while it was difficult to find any details on where to purchase these lamps, a little bird told me they retail for around 23,500 Chilean Pesos (just under $48 bucks each). For more information on ordering, you’ll have to reach out to Unison via e-mail.
