There should be no waiting involved for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic if you are living in or are near Chicago and the Nokia flagship store. Why? Because reports have been coming out regarding the availability of that certain touch-enabled S60 handset, for a price that’s a lot lower than what we’ve come to expect.
We’re told the European version of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is now available from the Chicago flagship store, with the branch in New York scheduled to get their own sale units starting today. The sad part is, these units don’t have North American 3G, but at least they’re going for fairy cheap — $349.99.

But although these early Nokia 5800 XpressMusic units don’t have U.S. 3G, at least they come with a U.S. warranty. And the price is nearly irresistible.
The Chicago flagship store’s currently got only the blue model in stock, with no word on whether they’re going to stock up again on units when they finally run out or not. Take advantage of their offer now and prove that you’re a real early adopter.

Looks like Mario has given up his bid for the White House, and officially conceded the race to Super Obama.

Like many among him, Mario is looking for change in the Mushroom Kingdom. No longer will he be led blindly into battle to “bring democracy” to the Koopas, nor will he stand for citizens resorting to eating mysterious mushrooms in lieu of a decent healthcare system. But what really pushed him past the brink was watching the value of his portfolio of gold coins crumble under the leadership of King Bowser.
Remember, next Tuesday to vote early and vote often.
[A big shout out to Gigi over at Roadside Scholar (who also happens to be my lovely wife) for snapping this excellent shot.]

I was tooling around over at Chicago’s Bucktown Arts Fest this past weekend, and thought to myself, what are the chances that I’ll actually stumble onto any good geeky crafts? But lo and behold, the first booth I step into had these great handmade robot ceramic cups.

Designed by artist Amy Allison of Soda by Amy, each porcelain robot vessel features the likeness of a robot man, woman or child. Since each one is hand built, they’re all slightly different shapes, sizes and textures. Thanks to their simple design, you can use ‘em for sipping coffee, organizing pens and pencils or as a flower vase. And yes, they’re lead free and dishwasher safe, so drink up!

Amy’s robot cups range in price from $16 to $20 each. While they’re not shown on the Soda by Amy Etsy shop at present, I’m sure she’ll be happy to accept your orders if you drop her a message. Think of it as a secret club that only we know about.

This oooey-gooey delicious skeleton is made from the melted down old carcasses of cassette tapes. Artist Brian Dettmer created these guys for an exhibition at the International Museum of Surgical Science, right here in my hometown of Chicago.

While the full-sized skeleton looks like it’s inspired by 80s greats such as R.E.M., The Knack, and The Police, this skull the artist also made appears to have fallen off from too much head-banging. (Note the Judas Priest and Mötley Crüe cassettes).

For some reason, these remind me of the famous face-melting scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

While we’re waiting for the real star of the Nseries (a.k.a. Nokia N96) to come out in the open, feast your first in the meantime and break your piggy banks for the Nokia N78.
It’s the newest Nseries device to be released by Nokia, and as you may have already guessed, it takes most of the features of the prized product line and upgrades them all big time. Almost.

The Nokia N78 packs Wi-Fi, GPS, A-GPS, and HSDPA network connectivity in a single slab of black, shiny candy bar. It comes in three dashes of brown, blue and white, and is preloaded with Symbian Series 60 OS 9.3 Feature Pack 2. Put simply, it’s the latest and greatest of the Nseries, but not quite.
It comes only with a 3.2 megapixel camera which may look like a joke when compared to the N95 and N82’s 5MP ones, but the N78 is also covered by Carl Zeiss autofocus optics and a “good enough” LED flash.
You’ll be able to snag one of these at Nokia’s flagship stores in Chicago and New York, as well as various other local sellers and online stores, if you know where to look. Oh, and the price is around $560. Our hands-on review will be coming up shortly.
