the robostool is at your feet’s beck and call

The RoboStool is a homemade robotic footstool that’s ready and willing to support your tired tootsies whenever you summon it. It’s a little reminiscent of the Take A Seat robotic chair but differs in that it uses 3 different modes of control.

RoboStool has three modes- universal remote, beacon navigation, and thermal sensor following. This video demonstrates the beacon navigation. It looks a little scary when the footstool springs into action, but then again, robots springing into action are always inherently a little scary, no?

To explain how he turned this cheap vinyl footstool into this robotic wonder, the creator says, “As with all my current robot projects I’m using the Parallax Propeller Chip on a Proto Board. For the drive I’m using the new Parallax Motor Mount Kit and two HB-25 motor controllers. A third HB-25 is used to control the two ServoCity linear actuators which are used to raise and lower the body and lid.” (Hopefully you understood some of those words because I’m not sure I did.)

This is the latest project from Norris Labs. You can get the schematics to build your very own RoboStool, and learn about previous projects, right here.

Gyroxus full-motion gaming chair

Gamers seeking more realism than just top notch graphics should check out the full-motion gaming chair from Gyroxus. The crash against the wall in GT5 or burning the tyre on a straight road, this chair will make you feel everything. Good thing about this is that it does not require any additional hardware to show its colors and is happy with the game’s controllers tucked on the stand of the chair. Current support is for PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Nintendo (presuming Wii) and costs a hefty $479 after an introductory discount.

Zero-Gee workstation for sleeping on the blog

Zero-Gee workstation for sleeping on the blog
I’d like you to meet my new chair. It’s not a smart chair. It’s the Zero-Gee Ergonomic workstation and by the looks of it, you’ll do a ton of resting and get very little work done. It’s got almost everything you need built in. Like a computer monitor, keyboard, swing out tray thing for your drinks and snacks. About the only thing missing is an onboard toilet, but I guess you can get up for that chore.

Ahhh, a blogger’s dream come true. I could have a little siesta between every article. Doesn’t it make you sleepy just looking at it? Unfortunately, the reality is that not many people are going to pay an outrageous price when you can just park yourself on the couch with your laptop.

“take a seat” is a robotic chair that follows you around

The “take a seat” chair is a robotic chair that follows you around! The user has a library card embedded with an RFID chip, which the chairs use to find and follow their target. Also, it’s one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen.

Take A Seat

The video is fun to watch as you get to see the chair in action, following this guy around the library. Somehow the chair is cute enough that it doesn’t seem too creepy that it’s always right behind you.

Dutch designer Jelte van Geest created the chairs for Openbare Bibliotheek Endhoven, a library design project. He says. “Robots are often seen as mean machines. However, they do have a more friendly side, which should have a more prominent place in our society.” Whoa, there, Jelte- just don’t get too comfortable with them- or that whole robot overlord thing could happen right under our noses.

Take A Seat

This is great for someone like me, because I’m lazy. Then again, I never go to the library so I guess I’d need a home version. Another application would be in a bar, so that when you get up to grab a new drink some jerk doesn’t steal your seat.

Now all it needs to achieve perfection is a cupholder.

Smartchair will ease your aching back

Smartchair will ease your aching back
We have all kinds of other smart devices so why not a smart chair? Most computer chairs are anything but friendly. Maybe that’s because they lack brains. This concept Smartchair Biofeedback Computer Chair is not just futuristic looking, it also features lots of embedded sensors, an adjustable seating pad for your backside, plus a backpad and headrest that adjusts to your movement.

By adjusting to you, you get the maximum comfort possible. Normally it’s just the opposite, you having to conform to the chair. This new approach means less backaches and better health in general. It doesn’t end there as the chair also has a touchscreen unit that lets you make adjustments yourself. You know, if you’re a control freak or just don’t trust technology. Kinda looks like a chair Captain Kirk would be right at home in.
