Every GSM cellphone user is familiar with the annoying Bzzzhtzttt noises that tend to emanate from random electronics anywhere you take your device. The iPhone is no exception, but the problem is exacerbated since most people have it sitting on their desk with a speaker close by playing music at reasonable amplification. It sucks.

Mac Life has a solution that may work for you. Just yank the ferrite beads from an old usb cable--they are inside the plastic bulge near one end of most cables--and place them around or taped in-line with your speaker cable. There are a few stories of success with this method, and nobody has mentioned an impact on audio quality, so it's a cheap fix that's worth a shot.

First firmware/ software update for Samsung Instinct released

Samsung Instinct has now officially received its first firmware/ software update with Sprint issuing software version BF30 for the phone. Containing a whole host of alteration and glitch fixes, the update seeks to improve upon previous complaints like inability to update roaming files, glitches in the weather application, etc. The full details of specific changes in the current update are not released yet though we certainly hope to get the low down on it to our readers very soon.

Fujitsu and NTT DoCoMo launch new health phones

Taking cellphone technology up another notch, Fujitsu and NTT DoCoMo debuted some new and interesting cellphones at this year’s Wireless Japan Expo. Made for aging users, the Raku Raku (easy easy) handsets help keep track of users’ health by keeping records of their stats. The F884iES allows user to determine their heart rate simply by placing their fingers over the camera lens which, along with the info from the built-in pedometer, can be input into a personal “health diary”.

String can public phone will soon replace your cellphone

This "String Can Public Phone" was seen on the streets of Ann Arbor, Michigan. This simple idea of repurposing and reclaiming obsolete technologies is something that we are seeing pop up more and moe in urban centers where the standard public pay phone is quickly becoming a thing of the past as cellphones take over.

NTT DoCoMo set to launch senior-citizen oriented Raku Raku Phone V Aug 1

For someone who has ever spent a good few Sunday afternoons trying to teach their foggy grans how to make a call through their cellphones, the Raku Raku Phone V should come as a much needed relief. Created by NTT DoCoMo, in cooperation with Fujitsu, the phone features a 2.8-inch widescreen main display, 2 megapixel camera and built-in GPS capabilities along with WCDMA networks, microSDHC cards, speech recognition and health tracking features via a built-in pedometer. And the best thing is it hits store starting August 1st of this year onwards, so you can actually plan to do other things than cellphone tutorials on weekends!
