Wine may soon come in a soda cans

Wine may soon come in a soda cans
Almost anything drinkable is or has been available in can form. Wine may be next thanks to Swedish designers Jens Andersson and Jonas Forsman who have made their recyclable wine cans slightly resemble a wine bottle.

The prototypes are available for any wine companies that want to take the plunge and enter a bold new mode of distribution. They haven’t had any luck so far. Probably because the elite don’t want others to think that they are drinking some low-class carbonated beverage. How appalling.

r/c tank delivers beer and bullets

This radio-controlled tank proves that armored military vehicles don’t always carry a deadly payload. In fact, this one delivers a cold, frosty one instead.

Remote Control Beer Tank

The beverage bearing R/C tank doesn’t really care if you drink Bud Light or Bawls, but it will make sure your thirst is quenched, thanks to its 4 built-in can holders.

Not only can it deliver delicious drinks, the little tank can fire 6mm BB bullets at targets up to 90 feet away. That’s right, don’t mess with my Brewskis! Thankfully, there’s a flashing warning light that lets you know to get the heck out of the way. Of course, these Engrish warnings from the manual don’t make me feel too warm and fuzzy about the safety of this thing.

Beer Tank Engrish Warnings

Did I happen to mention that it’s amphibious? Yep, the tank can travel on land or in the water, thanks to a retractable 4-wheel drive mechanism.

When you get near a body of H2O, just flip a switch on the remote and the wheels retract as the tank converts to boat mode (although they do get in the way of the drink holders when stowed).

So what’s not to like? You can find the beer-toting, gun-packing, land-driving, water-floating R/C tank here for £44.99 (appx. $92 USD).

Snap Capp: Can on bottom, bottle on top

Snap Capp: Can on bottom, bottle on top
In our attempt to never ever have flat soda again, humanity has come up with another way to keep your drink carbonated. The Snap Capp is a little less classy then the resealable can. It’s more like the mullet of the beverage world, all business on top where it’s keeping your drink fresh, with a party on the bottom.

It’s cheap, and it keeps your drink fresh with a lid. What more can you want out of life? Fits standard 12 or 16 ounce cans and comes in several colors. A pack of 3 with cost you $10.

Resealable Can: No more flat sodas

Resealable Can: No more flat sodas
You have to drink soda pretty fast so it doesn’t go flat, right? Not anymore. Not everyone can finish the can. It’s either drink the flat beverage or be wasteful. Ukranian inventor Johan De Broyer is a man with a love of carbonated beverages and a dream. He has come up with a neat way to re-seal cans.

His idea opens up new possibilities in advertising too. You pop the top as usual, then when you want to re-seal it, just turn the pop top tab and it completely closes up the can. That wouldn’t mean squat if it were just an enclosure, but Johan claims his invention can create a completely gas-tight and liquid-tight seal. Advertisers should love the fact that they can take advantage of the resealed top.

Even cans can still be improved. Pretty neat stuff.

Robotic cockroaches influence, exploit living clans

Filed under:

Strangely enough, we’ve seen robotic roaches in action before, but a new report focusing on nature’s influence on mechanical creatures substantiates some of our worse fears. Apparently, a team of researchers led by Jose Halloy of the University Libre de Bruxelles in Belgium crafted “cockroach-sized robots that interacted with their living counterparts.” The critters themselves did not actually resemble cockroaches, but they were doused with chemicals to mimic the authentic aroma; subsequently, these autonomous pests were able to persuade a clan of real roaches to choose a poor (light) shelter over a dark alternative, sparking worry that humanoids may one day use these very tactics to lead us straight to our demise. On the real, the gurus behind the research are looking at the trials to “explore decision-making mechanisms in group-living animals,” which when you think about, really isn’t any less frightening.

QRIO befriended by toddlers in study

Filed under:

Remember that study which placed a bubbly QRIO in the middle of rambunctious 18- to 24-month old kids in order to better analyze human-robot interactions? We know, it’s probably coming back ever so slowly, but regardless, the findings of the five month trial have finally been published, and the results are less than shocking. Essentially, researchers noticed that children learned to treat the QRIO as if it were another human; the Earthlings eventually felt comfortable touching its hands, covering it with a blanket when it laid down and helping it back up if it toppled over. Notably, kiddos even went so far as to shun the poor bot when it was programmed to dance nonstop, but they forgave the bizarre antics and continued to play nice once the jig was up. The crew involved with the research is now focusing on the development of autonomous bots for the toddler classroom, and while much more testing will likely be done before any conclusions are definitively drawn, results from this go ’round sure hinted at just how susceptible we are to robotic takeover, er, playing nice with harmless androids. Oh, and be sure and check the video after the break!

International Robotics welcomes multilingual Millennia robot

We’ll be straight: Millennia certainly isn’t the easiest robot on the eyes, but apparently it can hold a conversation like no other. According to its maker, International Robotics, this adult-sized, multilingual creation can “communicate with any age, social, ethnic or cultural group in any type of environment.” As if those bold claims weren’t enough, the WiFi-equipped bot can also “act as an effective PR, marketing, advertising, promotional, educational or entertainment tool,” and it can be remotely controlled in case you just don’t trust it to shoot from the hip. No word on pricing just yet, but we’d imagine this fellow could practically sell itself.
