Apple has recently updated their Apple TV to version 3.0.2. This new update is related to the release of Aperture 3.0, which made changes to how that software shares images over the local network and adds support for iPhoto’s Places and Faces features. The new Apple TV Version 3.0.2 can be downloaded and installed from the Update Software option within the Settings/General menu on Apple TV. [Apple Insider]

Those of you annoyed with the last user interface update of Apple TV will be happy to hear a new UI is out. Apple released version 3.0 of their Apple TV software today featuring a completely redesigned user interface and adding new features such as iTunes Extras, iTunes LP, Genius Mixes, and Internet Radio support.
The new main menu gives you instant access to your favorite content and according to the Apple press release: “Recently rented or purchased movies, as well as other content including TV shows, music, podcasts, photos and YouTube, are accessible directly from the new main menu.”
Introduced back in September, iTunes Extras and iTunes LP make their appearance in this living-room oriented Apple TV appliance. iTunes Extras provides additional content associated to movies while iTunes LP providing additional information about select albums.
If you’re like me and have a large music collection, you’ll be thrilled to hear that the Apple Genius Mix is now available with this software update. Create up to 12 endless mixes of songs that “go great together”, all of which are automatically created from your own music library. Should you be sick of your music collection – never fear because Apple TV now has support for Internet radio streaming. Nice.
On the photo front, Apple adds iPhoto Events and iPhoto Faces to Apple TV – making it easier to locate the photo you’re searching for.
Apple TV 3.0 is a free software upgrade for current owners of Apple TV. The current 160GB Apple TV model is available now for $229.

Many fanboys and girls are waiting for Apple’s next Macbook coming Tuesday. But check this out. In an interview with CNET UK, Jason Calacanis claims to have sources that say that Apple is working on a networked LCD HDTV with built-in Apple TV. So why jump into the HDTV market? I have no idea, but the promise of an HDTV capable of streaming music and videos from your network is interesting. The idea is that they’ll function like a standard TV with an Apple TV box, just without the box.

Still waiting for Apple’s next Macbook coming Tuesday? Well get this, Jason Calacanis, in an interview with CNET UK claims that a little birdie told him that Apple is working on a networked LCD HDTV with built-in Apple TV. Why Apple would jump into the HDTV market is strangely mysterious, but what’s interesting is the promise of an HDTV natively capable of streaming music and videos from your network. Still, a very stimulating rumor and another expensive gadget to add to your to-buy list. [MacBlogz]

Lionsgate said today it is working with Apple to make use of the latter’s Digital Copy for iTunes so select DVDs will also be available for digital viewing. The first Lionsgate film to get the iTunes treatment will be Rambo on May 27th.
Lionsgate said that by using Digital Copy for iTunes, those who purchase select DVDs or Blu-ray Discs will be able to insert the disc into a computer. The customer then enters a unique code into iTunes, and the movie is automatically copied to their iTunes library.
Customers own the iTunes Digital Copy of the movie, added the studio, and it has all of the
same viewing options as other iTunes Store video content, including the ability to be viewed on a computer, iPod with video, iPhone and widescreen television with Apple TV.
