China Mobile developing Android-based OS to gain mobile Internet stronghold

Following the recent trend of “everybody wanting to create their own smartphone OS” syndrome (i.e. Apple’s mobile OS X, Google’s Android, Nokia’s open-source Symbian), China Mobile is said to be, guess what? Working on one of their own.

Rumor has it that China Mobile is developing an operating system for TD-SCDMA mobile phones, and that it will be based on the open-source Google Android platform. In Japan, NTT DoCoMo is doing something similar.

China Mobile’s OS is intended to run on a new device, called the Onephone. (No, not that 01.)

Inside sources claim that, “The system… will integrate some of [China Mobile's] own applications designed with the TD-SCDMA network in mind, and will be similar to the iPhone in concept.” Prototype handsets currently under development are called ‘Ophones’, and it is said that the hardware may be supplied by manufacturer Lenovo.

As to why China Mobile is doing this, sources say that the move can be seen as “an attempt to reassert and extend its dominance over the mobile internet industry chain, making it difficult for others to get a foothold on anything other than China Mobile’s terms in the future.”

It figures, knowing how big the Chinese mobile phone market is, after all.

Hooray for China an Android device has jumped over the Great Wall without fear and silently slid its way into TechFaith Wireless for invasion purposes. QIGI is the manufacture of this latest Android model that goes by the name i6-Goal from what I gather itll be a meaty phone on the inside sadly there is no leaked images to tell if it would look like the ugly G1 that gives me nightmares every time I spot it on the internet. We are proud to launch the first Android-powered mobile pho

QiGi i6 officially supports both Android and Windows Mobile 6.1

When it comes to mobile phones, China is perhaps best known for its copycat handsets. You know them – looking like the originals but offering fewer features and a built quality that makes them un-recommendable.

However, QiGi i6, one of the latest smartphones to come from China, is nothing like that. It’s a quite nicely-designed device.

Yet the handset is not interesting due to its look, but due to its ability to run either Windows Mobile 6.1 or Google’s Android OS.

QiGi, the company that manufactured the i6, offers it in two flavors: an Android and a WM one. Unfortunately, there is no version that allows you to boot from both of the operating systems.

Apart from getting along well with Android and Windows Mobile, QiGi i6 also features:

As you can see, there is no 3G connectivity, but since the smartphone is manufactured for China, this isn’t such a big problem.

Now we can only hope that a similar handset (to support WM and Android) will reach Europe and the Americas too – regardless of which company manufactures it.

So, now you have a snowy wintry choice along with the bronze and plain black. The price, hardware, and software remain the same. It’s just white. Vanilla if you will. Think a minty cool breeze white. Auto Rotation Hack For Google Android T-Mobile G1

Found under: Android, Hacks, Smartphones, G1, T-Mobile, Google, HTC,

Being open source is one of the best aspects of Google Android users of the G1 will not have to wait a millennium for certain features from the main developers behind the OS. What we have here is a feature made possible by a third part programmer that should have made it in the first device right out of the box. Auto-Rotation is the feature Im talking about from the video below you can tell it works pretty darn well even when its off the home screen. G1 hacks are rolling in and believe

Google Mobile Help Forum launched to answer user questions fast

Google’s catalogue of mobile products has gotten bigger than ever, and the amount of user questions the Google Mobile team fields every day must be in the hundreds of thousands, if not millions.

I imagine having to face the difficult task of helping each and every single Google Mobile product user out of his or her predicament is a bag of hurt. So the fact that Google’s launching a dedicated user forum for such activities doesn’t surprise me at all.

The Google Mobile Help Forum, as it is so aptly called, is a community wherein members will be able to find answers to their mobile questions and help others find the answers to theirs. It’s an brand new platform that was built by Google entirely from scratch.

Here are the platform’s “exciting new features:”

- Q&A format to help you find answers quickly
- Improved search and integration with the Google Mobile Help Center
- Better spam detection and prevention
- Public recognition of Top Contributors and frequent posters (with more posting privileges as you make your way up)
- Ability to subscribe to ask questions and receive answers via email

To access the Google Mobile Help Forum, one simply has to go to http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile?hl=en on their browser. Not exactly the best URL ever designated for a forum, but hey, that’s why they invented bookmarks.
