accessorize with arcade machine buttons

Arcade fans, here’s a great way to dress up your wardrobe and show your gamer spirit at the same time.

The perfect companion to their earlier gamer medals of honor, SuperMandolini is at it once more, this time with these shiny 1-inch round badges that look just like the buttons on an arcade cabinet.

Each set of 10 handmade buttons (€16 / $20 US) includes everything you need to pull off your favorite combo moves, as well as the essential single and two-player select buttons - without which, your game would never start. The limited-edition badges are available direct from SuperMandolini. (Joystick not included).

silver retro gamer cufflinks are definitely semi-formal

I really think we need to start a new trend. Everyone needs to start wearing cufflinks again (did they ever?) At least that would give me a good excuse go around wearing these retro video game studs on my shirt sleeves.

Jewelry artist Dedalo makes a variety of sterling silver men’s accessories, but these Space Invaders cufflinks are my personal fave. What’s that you say? You like Pac-Man more than Space Invaders?

Both Pac-Man and Ghost editions (complete with textured pixel blocks) can also be found in the artist’s jewelry line.

Unless you’re always going to weddings and fancy-schmancy parties, you’ll just have to keep them in your dresser drawer until my cufflink trend takes off.

You can check out all of Dedalo’s jewelry over on his Etsy shop.

With its satin black finish and perforated metallic strip running down the middle, the BT530 looks elegant and interesting. Compared with the Motorola Motopure H12, whose sparkly accents border on bling, the BT530’s dull metal accents look conservative. At 1.9 x 0.7 x 0.5 inches, it’s fairly long and thin in shape, although not as exaggerated as the Aliph Jawbone.

More important is the fact that it uses a convenient microUSB charging connector (above left) that will prove ideal for Treo 800w and future Treo Pro owners since they share the same microUSB charger.  Additionally, the Jabra BT530 is one of the _very_ few Bluetooth headsets that offers a built-in On/Off Power slide switch (detail above right) which makes it extremely quick and convenient to save precious battery life while on the go.

StarTech USB VGA Dock Review

image The USBVGADOCK is a USB to VGA converter / adapter and offers the functionality of a docking station. The USB to VGA 4-in-1 docking station converts a single USB 2.0 port into multiple connection ports, including a VGA Port, 10/100 RJ45 network port, dual (3.5mm phono) audio ports and four additional USB 2.0 ports!
A stylish addition to any desktop or notebook computer, USBVGADOCK supports an impressive 1600×1200(32-bit) resolution for connected VGA Monitors, while helping to save time when swapping peripherals from one computer to another - now, instead of disconnecting devices like speakers and USB peripherals (scanners, printers, webcams etc.) in order to re-connect them to another computer, all that is required is to remove the single USB 2.0 connection, and insert it into an available USB 2.0 port on the secondary computer.

Features

•  Acts as a USB 2.0 hub allowing you to connect a keyboard, mouse, printer, audio devices, and more

•  Connect to an external monitor, with resolutions up to 1600×1200

•  Provides greater flexibility for using your notebook as a desktop

Review By notebookreview

The dock has four rubber feet on both sides so that you arrange however you want without fear of scratching either your desk surface or your new device.  StarTech bundles a small ‘wall wart’-styled adapter to supply power to the unit as well as a mini-usb cord to plug the dock into your computer.  Since the unit requires power to run the networking, audio and video subsystems, the unit does need to be plugged in to work.  On the plus side, this means that the four extra USB ports are externally powered, making this an excellent means by which to charge portable devices.

Setup is relatively quick and easy, consisting of plugging everything into the dock and installing some software. I currently have a USB mouse and keyboard plugged in, plus a USB-to-DVI DisplayLink adapter powering a 19-inch monitor. I’m running the VGA connection out to another 19-inch monitor and I’ve got a cable plugged into the Ethernet port as well. So, in total, I’m running three monitors (two 19-inchers plus my laptop display), an external mouse and keyboard, and an Ethernet connection.

gamer charm necklaces: wear your geek ’round your neck

Who says geek fashion accessories are only for guys? These necklaces are perfect for the gamer girl in your life.

Wii-mote Necklace

Created by San Antonio’s NBsCloset, each one of these tech-inspired pendants is custom cut and etched from fiber boards using a (frickin’) laser beam.

NES Zapper Necklace

It seems that NB has a particular affinity towards Nintendo controllers, what with mini necklace versions of the Wii-Mote, the NES Zapper light gun, and the classic (but much maligned) Power Glove controller.

Power Glove necklace

Of course, Nintendo controllers aren’t the only thing you can wear around your neck. If you’re ready to go back to the ’70s, try on this mini Speak & Spell (weird synthesized voice not included).

Speak and Spell Necklace

And if you’re more musically-inclined, how about a classic Casio SK-1 sampling synthesizer.

Or snap some pics with a Polaroid instant camera…

Each iconic necklace measures about 2.25″ at the widest point, and hangs from an 18-inch ball chain. Head on over to NBsCloset Etsy shop to order yours today. (Be sure to check out NB’s wife’s Etsy shop for additional designs)

Here’s something that will really turbocharge your sound system. Sony’s popular XS-L122P5 12" subwoofer features a "turbo" design cone that practically eliminates standing waves for improved sound. Plus, the unique five-sided design (and five-sided center cap) keeps the polypropylene woofer cone rigid for supremely accurate bass.

The XS-L122P5’s unique five-sided polypropylene cone not only looks cool but is stiffer than conventional round cones for lower distortion and higher power handling. The solid construction P5 center cap adds additional strength to the cone assembly and looks cool too! The unique foamed rubber surround with stroke stabilizers and double damper suspension ensures distortion free bass response, even at ¿wake up the entire neighborhood¿ volume levels. The P5’s unique basket design allows the woofer to mounts in regular round woofer holes.

Thermoplastic materials such as polypropylene can go through many temperature change cycles without any appreciable chemical change. They are created from polymers, which are long, repeating chain of atoms formed through the linkage of many monomer molecules, which are small molecule that may become chemically bonded to other monomers.

Polypropylene is inexpensive to manufacture and quite robust, and has found to be quite useful in a variety of products, speaker cones among them. It offers a low cost solution as a material that exhibits strength, rigidity, high internal loss, moldability, and excellent resistance to environmental influences such as moisture, UV radiation, fatigue, and temperature.

The HP Photosmart B8550 is a complete home printing solution producing large-format prints while still maintaining the versatility of an everyday home printer. The 5-ink B8550 can print in a wide range of sizes from 4 x 6-inches to 13 x 19-inches, producing laser-quality pigment ink black text and lab-quality photos. The HP Photosmart B8550 Photo Printer’s long-lasting, dual-drop-volume print head is comprised of 55 percent recycled plastic.

The B8550 is aimed at a different kind of user than the B9180 and B8850 are. Both of those printers are designed for serious amateur photographers and even professionals—as suggested by the word "Pro" in their names. The B8550 is much more of a high-end consumer printer.

Instead of pigment-based inks for photos, which both of HP’s more expensive models employ, the B8550 uses dye-based inks with shorter lifetimes (100 years behind glass, for example, compared with 200 years for the inks in both Photosmart Pro printers). And instead of being designed to print on a range of fine art papers, it’s essentially limited to using HP’s Advanced photo paper. Within those limits, however, it prints gorgeous output at large size.

In the unboxing gallery, we called the paper trays archeological because they are layered on top of one another. At the very bottom is a drawer that supports the rear end of any big sheets (13×19) you load in the tray above it, which alternately houses lettersize sheets. That 13-inch wide media, by the way, can go well beyond 19 inches in length to 44 inches. On top of the lettersize tray is the output tray, which extends in several parts to catch those big sheets.

Like other recent HP printers, the B8550 uses HP’s Auto Sense technology to identify photo papers from the bar code on the back, automatically adjusting print quality settings so you don’t have to fiddle with them.

With some routers, all wired and wireless traffic, including VoIP, Video Streaming, Online Gaming, and Web browsing are mixed together into a single data stream. By handling data this way, applications like video streaming could pause or delay. With D-Link’s Intelligent QoS Technology, wired and wireless traffic is analyzed and separated into multiple data streams. These streams are then categorized by sensitivity to delay, so applications like VoIP, Video Streaming, and Online Gaming are given priority over Web browsing. This enables multiple applications to stream smoothly to your TV or PC.
