The Boy Genius Report is reporting (what else?) that a new 9000-series device might be added to BlackBerry’s stable of smartphones soon. This speculation is based on the appearance of a few references to a “9100″ moniker alongside other model numbers in the 9000-series, including the 8800, 8300, and BlackBerry 9000. We suspect that this would of course be a next-level handset, bringing in more features to the table than most of the recently released BlackBerry smartphones.
It’s also interesting to note that there is a reference to an “External Display” from where they found these details as well. Could this mean that there will be a clamshell BlackBerry for the very first time? Other references include a mention of a few carrier names (Vodafone, DoCoMo), and a hint that the BlackBerry 9000 could be launched as one AT&T or T-Mobile’s handset offerings in the future.

This further reinforces the earlier rumors of an upcoming BlackBerry 9100. And if this device ever comes to the surface, you can expect it to have the standard BlackBerry set of features like GPRS/UMTS and WiFi connectivity, and of course the PIM and pre-installed office apps that BlackBerry users have grown to love.
Watch out for more details here as they become available.

For those that don’t know, eSATA is a version of the SATA connector that works externally, allowing you the same speeds of an internal drive with all the hassle of USB, except it requires a separate power cord. Bus powered refers to ability to transfer the necessary amount of power to operate the drive over the single connection, much like a lot of the newer bus-powered external USB hard drives.

But all that is soon to change as there is a new eSATA standard in the works that would make eSATA a bus-powered connection as well. There are more and more desktops and motherboards coming with eSATA built in, and I’ve even seen a few laptops with the connection integrated, so SATA speeds with the convenience of USB is something I like the idea of a lot.
The standard was announced by the SATA-IO or Serial ATA International Organization and the standard is being called Power Over eSATA. They expect it to provide enough power to power a 2.5” HDD and they say the technology could be integrated into products as early as the end of this year.

It’s been a tick since we first saw a rig running on Intel’s X38 technology, and while we’ve been expecting a launch for some time now, it seems that a couple of mobo manufacturers are finally helping to (unceremoniously) kick things off. Up first is the Asus P5E3 Deluxe, which of course supports DDR3 1800MHz dual-channel memory, dual PCI Express 2.0 x16 lanes, 802.11n WiFi and an Energy Processing Unit (EPU) that allows the CPU power supply “to be digitally monitored and fine-tuned with improved VRM efficiency in heavy or light loadings.” Additionally, MSI has loosed its X38 Diamond, which throws in its exclusive Circu-Pipe cooling system and Dual-Channel PWM technology. ‘Course, we’d already heard about Gigabyte’s GA-5BXWV-RH mainboard (shown after the jump), but here’s to hoping a few more companies hop on board soon to give potential customers more than a handful of options.

If you’re an impatient individual, you’re probably going to like what you hear about ASUS’s newest motherboard, the P5E3 Deluxe. Sound fancy? Well, it is — featuring Intel’s X38 chipset (with an FSB running at 1600MHz), Core 2 Quad and Core 2 Extreme CPU support, plus the company’s Energy Processing Unit, 8-phase power, and WiFi-AP. Of course, that won’t help with your MTV-generation attention span and lack of patience, but the embedded micro-Linux variant, Express Gate, just might. You see, when you boot the system, you’re given an option to immediately enter into a small Linux OS — within five seconds, they say — called SplashTop (developed by DeviceVM). The OS is coupled with a stripped-down version of Firefox and Skype, allowing you to update your Facebook profile almost instantly. The whole shebang is available right now for three-hundred and sixty of your precious dollars.

In ye olden days your motherboard was made of cheese and was really just a place for the RAM to sleep; now you can’t move inside a computer without bumping into dual-channels, PCI-express slots and random little surface-mounted chips with their own tiny fans. ASUS have stepped up the game (if the game you’re playing is “build a complicated circuitboard”) with their P5E3 Deluxe WiFi-AP@n motherboard, which not only boasts such niceties as Intel’s X38 chipset, Dual PCI Express 2.0 x16 lanes and support for DDR3 1800MHz dual-channel memory, but integrated 802.11N wireless and embedded Linux.

Just months ago, the Consumer Complaints Board in Denmark announced that it had “proven” that the logic board within a slew of Apple’s iBook G4s were faulty, and now it seems that Cupertino has been forced to cough up reparations. According to InfoWorld, a US-based Apple spokeswoman stated that it “disagreed with the DCCB’s findings based on its own investigation, and has a strong track record for customer satisfaction.” Apparently, the counter report that Apple assembled wasn’t enough to persuade the board that the swarm of customer complaints were unwarranted, and now Frederik Navne Boesgaard (of the CCB) has said that Apple “paid up” after conceding the point.

The NANO board is just a motherboard that is being touted as Nano-ITX even though one of its dimensions is 2mm larger than the Nano-ITX form factor allows for. The motherboard has an IDE port, a CF card slot, and gets its processing power from an ETX module.

Other ports include Ethernet, VGA out, 4 USB ports, 3.5mm jacks for both audio in and out, and PS/2 ports for keyboard and mouse. There are also a couple of serial ports and PC/104-Plus expansion with both ISA and PCI bus stacking connectors.

VIA has launched another mini-ITX motherboard with an integrated CPU. This one however is the fastest motherboard they have ever launched that fits in a mini-ITX footprint.

The full model name is the VIA EPIA SN18000G, and it uses the CN896 IGP chipset. That means it has integrated graphics that are DX9 compatible and can do MPEG-2 acceleration with hardware. However there is a PCIe x16 slot should you choose to upgrade to a better graphics card.
