Nokia E90 meets maker courtesy of 12 gauge shotgun

We think the emphatic “For Parts ONLY” in the description of this well-loved E90’s eBay auction pretty much says it all.

Paul Allen: Microsoft co-founder, 700MHz auction candidate

Filed under:

When you’re the co-founder of Microsoft there’s always that nagging question of what to do with your millions billions. How ’bout bidding for some of that hot 700MHz action in the sweetspot of US spectrum? Seems that Paul Allen has filed to bid in the FCC auction with an entity called Vulcan Spectrum LLC — an investment company. Hint: Allen is also the majority shareholder of cable operator Charter Communications. Other notables on the list include Google and Verizon Wireless, naturally, as well as Qualcomm — protector of patents, MediaFLO mogul. Remember, Qualcomm already holds 700MHz licenses obtained in a June 2003 FCC auction. It all goes down on January 24th when the bidding begins.

Western Hemisphere getting behind AWS for 3G

There isn’t necessarily any single morsel of news here, but 3G Americas — the group responsible for keeping GSM on the up and up this side of the pond — just wants everyone to know that it likes AWS’ chances for gaining ground in this part of the world for new HSPA (and eventually, LTE) deployments. Yanks may know AWS better as the weird flavor of bandwidth T-Mobile has gotten stuck with for deploying its desperately overdue 3G services; it utilizes spectrum in both the 1700 and 2100MHz spaces to push bits around, and while it hasn’t yet been commercially deployed on a wide scale, the consortium points out that AWS spectrum auctions are in the pipe for Canada, Chile, and Mexico, among others. Naturally, that’s very good news for anyone who finds themselves shopping for an AWS handset down the road, seeing how broader support across borders leads to broader manufacturer support — a fact that 3G Americas is also quick to note. European and Asian buy-in is another matter altogether, but we’ll take what we can get.

eBayer wants $15000 for Darth Vader Wii

Filed under:

Yeah, just about anything gets ratcheted up a couple levels on the fantasmical scale if Darth Vader makes a cameo, but seriously, $15,000 for a Dark Side Wii? To be frank, this auction has spoof written all over it, but whatever the case, redferndesign is offering up a “limited edition” (one of four, supposedly) Wii system with a red CD input LED, an all black motif, Darth Vader imprinted on the side and a pair of black Wiimotes / nunchucks. Also of note, the Wiimote pictured must be one of the rarest ever, particularly when you consider the previously nonexistent “x” and “y” buttons and the rectangular power switch. Even if the console (alone) is indeed modded up, there’s no way anyone in their right mind will cough up that much coin, but why not hit the read link and have a laugh at his / her expense?

NES PC up for auction, emulation addicts rejoice

Yeah, the NES PC is old hat, but if you just can’t find the time to create one for yourself, why not pay some diligent soul for their hard work rather than living another month without one? Available via eBay, this finely crafted piece of art won’t crank through any of the latest PC titles, but it comes with plenty of horsepower (and peripherals) to handle all the emulation you can stand. Granted, Americans will have to fork over additional coinage to have it shipped in from France, but flooring a room full of nerds at your forthcoming holiday bash will most certainly make it worthwhile. Check out the auction along with an in-action video at the read link below.

AT-AT Gamecube mod now for sale, fanboys swarm

Filed under:

There are mods, and then there are works of art. Without question, the item you see above falls squarely into the latter category, and it’s likely to give any devout Star Wars fan a chance at fainting upon first glance. The AT-AT Gamecube mod (also referred to as the AT-GC in some circles) was built a few years back, but now the proud creator has decided to cash out and let the highest bidder take ownership. This beast maintains the original heatsink and cooling fans, and comes with the AT-AT pilot, four Wavebird controllers and a pair of memory cards. Check out a few more detailed shots and a video in the read link below, and go ahead and throw your bid in while you’re at it — resistance is futile, you know?
