Asus EeePC 900 Launched at CeBIT

Asus%20EeePC%20900.jpgFor all the claustrophobic folks who can’t use the Eee due to its size but would like to try to, perhaps the new Asus EeePC 900 launched at CeBIT this year would be a match. The Asus EeePC 900 widens the screen of the Eee to 8.9-inches. And without that thick, hideous screen margin, I must say, it’s looking good. Aside from the larger screen, the Asus EeePC 900 also offers 12GB of storage which is a lot larger than the old Eee’s, and a default 1GB memory. And yes, the Asus EeePC 900 will come preinstalled with Windows OS. It will first be available to select European countries for US$600, which is around twice the amount of the old Eee with basic specs. I surmise though, that this price tag will lower as time goes. Unfortunately, unlike what was reported, it doesn’t seem as if the Asus EeePC 900 has touch screen. But then again, it’s too early to lose hope.

Kojinsha Announces E8 Mini-Notebook PC

Kojinsha_E8.JPG

After the phenomenal success of the Asus Eee PC, it seems like a new mini-notebook comes out every other week. Not that I’m complaining. That market is yet to be fully explored, and it’s exciting to see where the technology would lead us. Kojinsha Korea, for example, has announced its new mini-notebook PC, the E8. Designed to compete directly with the Eee, the E8 runs on AMD Geode LX800 CPU, with Windows XP as its default OS. It has a 1024 x 600 pixel resolution touch screen display, and features 40GB HDD, 512MB memory, USB port, memory card slot, built-in stereo speaker, and 3.5 hours of continuous using time. It will ship on February 29, 2008, for around US$600.

Cowon’s N3 player packs DMB, GPS, 7-inch touchscreen

Cowon has really been tossing out a lot of winners of late, and if this N3 is any indication, there seems to be no stopping the DAP manufacturer at this point. While the N3 doesn’t look to be headed for US shores in the immediate future — thanks to that pesky built-in DMB tuner — it does seem to have all the codec goodies and design refinement of its older siblings. The player is a followup to the N2, with a 800 x 480 7-inch touchscreen, 600MHz Alchemy AU processor, dual SDHC slots (but no built-in memory), and GPS. Software is based on Windows CE 5.0. No word on price or release date, but hopefully we’ll be finding out more next month at CES.

Cowon A3 US launch details revealed

Cowon’s been teasing us with its A3 personal media player for some time now, and it looks like the whole charade is now finally nearing a close, as the company has just announced the long-awaited US launch details for the PMP. According to Crave, the player will start shipping in early December, with it setting you back $349 and $399 for the 30GB and 60GB variations, respectively. If you’ve got a bit more money to spend, however, you may do well to consider Cowon’s just-released Q5W player, which adds some WiFi to the equation, among other things.

[Thanks, Justin]

Cowon Q5W goes on sale in US, shows off its premium skills

We knew the Cowon Q5W was coming to our fair shores this week, but now that it’s here, we’ve got some fresh details that make that $549 pricetag seem downright reasonable. You’re still looking at a 5-inch 800 x 400 touchscreen and Windows CE, but Cowon has really thrown down the gauntlet with codec support, including DivX, XviD, AVI, ASF, WMV9, MPEG4, OGM, Ogg, FLAC and APE — and the browser supports Flash. There’s also a “pen mode” for the interface and an optional WinCE Office Viewer that might let you actually get some work done. To top it all off, the entire UI appears to be skinnable, and Cowon says a version with GPS will also hit next month. Damn, looks like our love affair with the Archos 605 WiFi is over.

PS. Check the Cowon America product page for some of the best machine translation pickup lines we’ve ever seen.

[Thanks, Gibran]
