EXILIM Keitai W63CA to feature 8.1MP cam, for release in Japan
If I were Samsung (or LG, or Sony Ericsson), I’d do good to remember that the camera industry is not my turf, and that I could face serious competition when the real camera makers step up to the plate and make their own handsets.
The idea behind the last sentence, if you’re a cameraphone aficionado, is what makes the Japanese release of the EXILIM KEITAI W63CA so exciting. It’s a phone that’s made by Casio and AU, and touts an EXILIM powered 8.1 megapixel camera as its main selling point.

You read that right. The EXILIM KEITAI W63CA will come with not 3, not 5, but 8.1 megapixels of cameraphone goodness. What’s more, it’ll have a 9-point auto-focus and wide-angle lens, as well as a dual-LED flash. It’s not exactly an optical zoom camera (yet), but we’ll eventually get there.
Looking at the back of this handset, it would be very hard to tell that it was even a phone in the first place. But it is, and it also features a 3.1-inch WVGA screen that’s suitable for viewing your large, hi-res snaps. Support for microSD cards is included.
