Datel has issued a release stating that they’re suing Microsoft. Why? Microsoft had locked out unauthorized memory cards with the latest Xbox LIVE update, eventually making unauthorized memory card from Datel incompatible.

Datel is claiming that Microsoft is using “to forbid cheating” as a pretext to clamp down on its Max Memory Card that “offer far better value for the price”. The upgrade Datel claims, will make more than 50,000 Max memory cards incompatible with the console and also make it difficult for consumers to backup their data.

Datel’s filing also claim that they’re not against innovation but Microsoft’s dashboard upgrade is not and thus, “intended to foreclose competition from Datel in the sale of other aftermarket Xbox accessories and add-ons, including gamepad controllers, through the implementation of predatory technological barrier.”
