Samsung Techwin to split off camera business into new division

samsungcameraIt seems like Samsung Techwin is going to split off their camera business into a whole new division all by itself. This new division is set to be called Samsung Digital Imaging and it will be the source of all Samsung camera-based products beginning on February 1st.

Also on this date, Samsung Digital Imaging will begin to be listed on its own as a separate entity. This will be done in an effort to separate this from the Samsung Group’s heavy industry segment. This also makes it easier for the new management to more thoroughly focus on the consumer digital camera industry.

This split would make perfect sense. Especially, when you consider what Samsung Techwin is known for making besides digital cameras, which includes gas turbine engines, mobile artillery and more.

The GPSmile 62 features a 5-inch WQVGA touchscreen that has a 16:9 aspect ratio. Plus, the device itself can play videos and play music, making it very much the mobile media player. SD memory expansion is also supported for up to 4GB.

Other features include built-in speakers, Bluetooth, a removable battery, a TMC antenna, and more. The GPSmile 62 can let you know about traffic jams before you get to them and can suggest alternate routes. It can also use 32 different satellites, keeping your signal consistently strong. There’s no word on when this navigation device will be available or how much it will cost, but we’ll be sure to let you know when we know.

Atari announces Ghostbusters video game

ghostbustersThe Ghostbusters video game has been around for awhile now. Well, the idea of it, at least. But now the whole enterprise is getting official with an announcement from Atari that they will be releasing the game on six different systems in 2009.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game was written by the same people that wrote the first Ghostbusters movie, including Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd and their team. The really cool part is that the original cast members are involved this time around and they will all lend their voices and appearances to the game’s final product. Yes, that means Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson will be in the game. Sweet!

The game falls in line sequentially after Ghostbusters II. It seems Manhattan will have been taken over by ghosts once again. No word on an exact release date yet, but it’s good to know we can expect this one next year. It’s been a long time coming!

Periscope Lighted Folio is great Kindle companion

periscope_for_kindle-sb-460x480

If you’ve heeded Oprah’s call and got yourself an Amazon Kindle, or you’ve had one for quite some time, then you’ll be pleased to know about the Periscope Lighted Folio. This accessory makes it so you can keep your Kindle lit up, even when trying to get through a few chapters in the dark.

One of the most common misconceptions about the Amazon Kindle is that it is backlit. In fact, it’s not backlit at all because it uses an E-Ink display. This makes it much easier on the eyes, but it also makes it impossible to read in the dark.

The Periscope Lighted Folio is a new accessory that features a twin LED light that can be retracted into the folio when not in use. The folio is 5-inches by 8-inches and will fit the Kindle perfectly. There is also a pen pocket. The device comes with 3 AA batteries and you can get an optional AC adapter as well. Covered in black leatherette, the Folio sells for $49.95 and is available now.
