Helios was clearly inspired by the Jurassic era, when dinosaurs ruled the Earth. Helios is a concept design for an off-road electric solar-powered vehicle. When you take a break from your off-roading and stop the vehicle, the car will spread its “wings” which are made of photovolatic panels, in order to capture the sun’s rays and charge up the battery.
You’ve seen the concept in nature, where some animals have stretchable skin that absorb heat and light. A lizard might stop on a rock to take a breather and as he does, he opens up his extra skin and recharges. Same thing here. The Helios Concept won the Best Use of Technology at the Interior Motives Design Awards 2008. Pretty awesome.
Nikon is back with their latest line of cameras… Wait they’re not cameras!! They’re the latest portable entertainment space. We’re not sure what happened to Nikon but we don’t really care, these headsets look uber-cool! Set for release on December 12, these two multimedia playback headsets are Nikon’s way of paving a path to a new media genre. And yes, there are two. First is the Media Port UP 300 (4GB) and the other is a higher-performance 300X (8GB). They both are Apple iPod compatible and they come with wi-fi ability. Tokyo passersbies can get a test drive for these headsets with built-in screen for video playback/streaming and Web surfing. The catch? $680 for the basic edition, and you’ll need to hook up with a Tokyo babe to get you one of these. [Crave]
Typing on the iPhone’s touchscreen is pretty awkward. It’s really no fun. Your life is about to get easier thanks to the BTKeyMini, a Bluetooth keyboard for the iPhone and iPod Touch. This small keyboard has a cover that also holds your iPhone. It should fit in even a very small briefcase. It uses a battery of it’s own so it won’t suck off of your iPhone. There’s still the iPhone’s lack of copy and paste, but hey this will still make it easier for you. It almost makes your iPhone into a laptop. No word on when it’s shipping, but it will cost you $92.
When it comes to awesome looking HDD enclosures, all your base are belong to LaCie. But not anymore. Enter the Datamore Porté in Korea. Choose between USB only or both USB and eSATA, you can add this to your list of alien relics when it comes out. No news on Stateside availability but if you’re like everyone and visiting Korea this year you might have an encounter with this alien technology. [Akihabara News]
The LED Bath Light seems to do it all and then some. This device functions as a flashlight, a candle, a rave machine (For when you have company in the tub and are sucking on pacifiers?), and it’s smart enough to pull thermometer duty as well so you won’t burn yourself accidentally in the bath.
But thats not all. It also comes with an LED light to make your bath time soothing and relaxing. It has several modes to suit any situation, so if you want to use it for other things you can. It’s just a concept, but damn if I don’t want to bath with this thing now.
Canalys reports that during Q3 of 2008 Windows Mobile smartphones came only in 4th position. First position is still being held by Nokia and its Symbian smartphones will keep that position for quite a while. Next came in Apples iPhone and RIMs BlackBerries. And only after the top 3 we find Microsoft powered smartphones.
With Android coming in strong this quarter we might just see a different report early next year. And besides the G1 more Android phones are going to follow With t
