Call For Entries: Recycled Fashion Show

tcity.jpg

Austin's Treasure City Thrift is having their annual recycled fashion show in October, and they're looking for creative types to model, design accessories, and do other generally helpful things. Here's the form to apply; they've already filled the spots for clothing designers, so those interested should get to it. But, as the photo above clearly shows, you're in for some stiff competition:)

robot soccer lets you bend it like bender

Sure, these little robots might not be able to drop-kick or head a soccer ball - but that doesn’t mean they’re not cool. This mini robot soccer (or football depending on your homeland) game looks like lots of fun for you and your friends when you need a break from slaving away in your cubicles.

Robot Soccer

The set comes with a pair of mini infrared remote-controlled robots which can shuffle the ball along the ground and push it into the goal. A press of the “sprint” button gives your robot a momentary boost of extra energy to power through.

The set includes both ‘bots and remotes, a pair of goals and balls and some green “turf” to play your game on. You can grab the complete set over on UK gadget shop I Want One of Those for just £19.95 (about $38 USD).

Microsoft turns to Seinfeld to combat Get a Mac ads

Microsoft turns to Seinfeld to combat Get a Mac adsWhether you’re a Mac fan or not, I think we all get a chuckle out of the “Get a Mac” ads. And they must have converted many PC users. Now Microsoft is looking to give as good as they get, recruiting Jerry Seinfeld and of course Bill Gates to show you how magical Vista is. It’s a $300 million campaign that has $10 million set aside for “key celebrity pitchmen”.

The ads apparently focus on “Windows, Not Walls,” talking about the need to “break down barriers that prevent people and ideas from connecting.” It will no doubt involve the Mojave Experiment too, which is Microsofts version of candid camera, where Microsoft made unsuspecting users(Prejudiced against Vista) test a new product that was in fact Vista. They’ve got Seinfeld, why not get Kramer and George in on it too?

Mythbusters as crocheted toys

I found these little guys in the CRAFT Flickr pool: Jamie and Adam from Mythbusters, recreated as crochet toys. All of us here are fans, and I think the resemblance is pretty great.

Muwi concept mower plays with it’s food

Muwi concept mower plays with it’s foodHave you ever wished you could do something useful with the grass your lawnmower collects in the bag? Apparently someone thought long and hard on that very issue. A few someones, like South Korean students Yong Hee Cho, Yuli Sung, Jee Won Lee and Seung Hee Son. The Muwi mower will take your yard trimmings and compact them into usable shapes like a seat or a grass ball your kids can throw around.

After it figures out the size and shape of your lawn, it will start munching grass by itself and excrete fun shapes. It’s your choice whether you want to clean up the shapes, seat on them or play with them. You might even want to toss them all in your neighbors yard. It’s kind of like having a robotic goat since it munches grass and leaves droppings.

OpenFrame Platform looks like an iPhone

OpenFrame Platform looks like an iPhoneIf you’re a company that is still making landline phones, you have to come up with something that’s gonna make people want them. Like mimicking the iPhone for instance. Could be coincidence. Maybe. The OpenFrame Platform from OpenPeak sure looks a lot like Apples wonder phone. The frame is the center piece for the wireless phones.

They’ve been working on it for about a year and it should be available in early 2009, priced from $200 and $300, distributed by telecom service providers. I wonder if they’re also planning on providing cool apps so you can really get the whole experience of an iPhone for the home. I wonder if this could fly.
