Skeleton made up of old melted cassettes

Skeleton made up of old melted cassettes
Many of us have a closet full of old cassette tapes that we haven’t seen since at least the mid nineties. Did you ever think that they could turn into something useful? Like a creepy and cool skeleton for instance?

Brian Dettmer is a man who knows what to do with old music. Melt it and let your music rise from the ashes as something undead. It’s especially appropriate if you use heavy metal tapes. Never throw anything away people. Instead, make it into something else. Imagine how much creepier it would have looked had he used VHS tapes.

iPhone Voice Recognition coming soon

iPhone Voice Recognition coming soon
Those wanting voice recognition for their iPhone may be in luck soon. AT&T has been working on a web-based platform called Speech Mashups. It works like this. The platform sends your speech to a remote server, translating commands to control your handset. Since it’s web-based, other devices aside from the iPhone will be able to use the technology as well.

It will be compatible with most browser-equipped AT&T handsets, wireless devices and even TV set-top boxes. You just need an Internet connection. One downside with the iPhone is that Speech Mashup can’t perform voice-dialing because it is compatible with web-coded apps only. Still, it’s a fascinating development.

E Ink electronic paper display for phones

E Ink electronic paper display for phones
We’ve seen E ink used on watch faces, but did you expect to see it on your phone? E Ink is thinking about introducing it’s E Ink Vixplex Imaging Film for the outer display in future clamshell handsets. Pretty cool idea and very easily done since e-ink only consumes power when the image changes.

The first two handsets that will feature the technology are the Hitachi W61 and the Casio Model G’zOne. The displays are said to be clearly visible even under direct sunlight, which gives the user a viewing angle of up to 180-degrees. It’s sure to be a big hit as users love to personalize their phones.

Incredible typewriter sculptures

Jeremy Mayer makes these really fantastic evocative sculptures from old typewriters. I'm amazed by what he uses for each body part, and how he could have imagined to put things together the way he does. Via BoingBoing.

“The Shining” starring Tribot & 2 Femisapiens

Check out this spoof of The Shining with Tribot as Danny and 2 Femisapiens as the twin girls. It’s great for a hearty geek laugh. After seeing this mini movie, I firmly believe that we should be re-creating all sorts of classic movies with robots. All the time. Toy robots. Go on, you know you want to click it.

rock out like a real-life link with this playable ocarina

If you’ve always dreamed of serenading your very own Zelda with the dulcet tones of an ocarina, now’s your chance. You can buy this playable replica, tri-force logo and all!

Zelda Ocarina

Anything that’s described as a “mesmerizing playable fairy flute” is sure to get the ladies lining up at your doorstep. Why, look at this enchanting fellow playing his ocarina. Have you ever seen anything sexier? *swoon*

The ocarina is made from glazed earthenware, which I found surprising because it kind of looks like plastic in the photos. It boasts 6 holes and comes with a songbook of your favorite Legend of Zelda tunes. Of course, that assumes you know how to read music for a fictional instrument, but frankly if you’d burn 40 bucks on one of these, that’s probably the least of your worries.

Zelda Ocarina

You can buy one for $39.99 at ThinkGeek.
