Photon Light Boards take skating back to the future

Photon Light Boards make skating futuristic
If I were a skater I would do all of my skating at night using the Photon Light Board. I would turn a 360 pivot into an ollie while people would swear up and down that they saw a bright neon UFO descend down that staircase.

With the Photon Light Board, I could do it too. Since all the boards have such highly customizable lighting patterns and many colors to choose from. It would be like doing tricks on a Lite-Brite. But I’d probably break my neck doing a rad stunt… So it’s probably best if I let that dream die. But you don’t have to. You can ring your board with LEDs, add drop lighting, or even skateboard headlights. Each Photon Light Board has about 30 lights.

For the board alone, it will cost you $110 to $120. You can get the full package for $200.

Philips and Swarovski Active Crystals: new colors for the fashionable earphones and USB keys

Philips and Swarovski Active Crystals, earphones and USB keys

[CES 2008] Philips unveiled at CES its new line of luxurious earphones and USB keys. I normally do not like that much the bling bling technology, but this collection is pretty well done: the design and the shapes of the crystal are nice. Technology totally becomes a commodity here!

The new Philips and Swarovski Active Crystals Color range includes the USB Heart Ware Crystal Vitrail Light memory keys, the Space Violet in-ear headphones, the USB Lock Out Jet Hematite memory keys and the Space Jet Hematite in-ear headphones.

Price: headphones $99, USB keys $179, available in selected consumer electronics and department stores February 2008.

Here are pictures of the Shure booth at CES 2008. Unfortunately Shure didn’t announce anything particular new for CES 2008 but I did get a chance to shoot a couple of shots of their latest Music Phone Adapter product.

The Music Phone Adapter converts your Shure earphones into a fully functional stereo mobile headset usable by music phones. With the Music Phone Adapter in place, you’ll be able to easily switch between your music and incoming phone calls. Shure has two versions of the Music Phone Adapter - one for the Apple iPhone/Motorola RAZR V3i and one for the Palm Treo smartphone. The following two pics are of the MPA-3C which works for the Apple iPhone and the Motorola RAZR V3i:

Hauppauge announces High Definition Video Recorder for PCs

image One last note about Hauppauge. They announced and showed off a new USB video recording box called the “HD PVR” at CES 2008. Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to take a picture of this device while at the conference. According to Hauppauge, the HD PVR can record high definition content in H.264 format using a hardware based H.264 hardware encoder. Video sources such as high definition cable TV or satellite TV set top box receivers can connect to the HD PVR using component inputs. The HD PVR comes with an IR Blaster which allows it to control the set-top boxes. The package can also record in AVCHD recordings which is primarily used by Blu-ray players. The HD PVR will be available in Q1 of 2008 for an MSRP of $249.

Nintendo Wii Mii chocolate Valentines

Nintendo Wii Mii chocolate Valentines
It used to be you’d show up at the door with a dozen roses and a box of chocolates and you were set. Well, it doesn’t take many years for that to get old.

Why not give that special someone a Valentine’s day treat that goes hand in hand with their Nintendo Wii obsession? Paul Pape Designs now offers chocolate Mii’s for a very special and very geeky Valentine’s Day. They’re made with real Hershey’s chocolate, in white or brown and the most adorable touch(Or sickening, depending on your viewpoint) is the fact that they come in a box that resembles the Wii.

Inside said box is the message “Wii belong together, you and Mii”. Once they open the box they will find the two Mii’s with little red hearts. Ahhh. gag me. Still, they get points for originality and I know plenty of people that would love these.

Sony BMG songs going DRM-free on Amazon

Sony BMG to start selling songs on Amazon with no DRM restrictionJust before the close of 2007 Warner Music Group joined EMI and Universal by dropping their digital copying restrictions on downloaded songs and offering DRM-free music through Amazon. Today Sony BMG, the last of the big four and the second largest music company in the world, has joined in and removed copying restrictions on their downloaded music and are offering their songs through Amazon as well. This makes Amazon the first online retailer to offer DRM-free song downloads from the world’s four largest music companies.

DRM’s previously had been required by these large music companies in order to prevent songs from being illegally copied which was believed to hurt overall music sales. The DRM would often limit the number of times and devices a song could be copied, such as a limited number of computers or a particular brand of MP3 player. Most consumers and rival media players manufacturers have been generally apposed to the restrictions due to these limitations.

Throughout 2007 the large music companies have seen an overall fall in physical album sales with fewer customers buying CDs. While the number of online music sales continue to rise they still don’t make up for the losses companies are seeing in CD sales, which has driven them to come up with new plans to increase music sales dollars. Removing DRM restrictions is one of those plans with hopes of selling more songs online that can be transferred any number of times to any computer or any media player without restrictions.

Guitar Wizard rocks CES: uses real guitar

uses real guitar
Allegro Rainbow’s Guitar video game has been rocking CES this week. Music Wizard Group’s Guitar Wizard video game is a step forward after their successful Piano Wizard title, but Guitar Wizard is not just another version of Guitar Hero. It’s actually an educational video game that’s designed to help kids of all ages to read and play music.

Guitar Wizard will be available on both PC and MAC platforms, and will come with an actual honest to God Washburn guitar and MIDI pickup. Plus, the software is compatible with just about any MIDI guitar.

The company claims players will be rocking out and reading music in just minutes. I don’t know about that, but I like the idea of an easy way to learn guitar.
